Catherine Redinger's Staging Area

This is one of my favorite races. The only suggestion I would have is that there be a start mat since this is part of the LRRC Grand Prix Series. Those of us in the back don’t get an accurate time. The drawings after the race and the volunteerism for this race is spectacular. This is definitely a race I will continue to do every year.

It was a fun race but very low budget. The bibs did not have any indication that this was Death by 5K – only had a number. Lots of food – we were definitely well fed. I think they should have had more ice at the finish line for the warmest part of the day. The head index was over 110 for 2 of the races. There was also no medical on site. I know a couple people had to drop due to heat exhaustion. I personally had to drop after #6 due to blisters on both feet. When I mentioned this at the finish line I was told “We have some bandaids over there somewhere” – pointing to a large number of boxes.
The t-shirts were cotton – where as the ones from the Memphis Death by 5K were tech shirts.
The ability to set up tents and camp was awesome. Lots of places to chose from.
It was definitely a challenge.

I have only done a handful of trail races but this was by far the best one and one I will definitely be doing next year! Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery. Trails were well kept. The aid stations were spectacular. While road races will alway be my preferences, I am starting to really enjoy the trails!

This is such a fun race. People bring their pets for the 1 mile run and they are dressed up. Weather was cold but the snow we had the night before didn’t stick to the roads so the race was able to carry on.

This was one of the most well put together races I have participated in. The course was flat (except going over the walking bridge). I will definitely participate again.

Since this was the first race since the start of the pandemic it went off very well. Unfortunately the weather was wet and ended up quite chilly. I haven’t run much lately but had one of the best races I had in a long time. I’m not a fast runner but I enjoy being out there with everyone.

Starting when it was dark and getting to see the sunrise was awesome! (And I am not a morning person). Great race, great organization. Just wish there was a starting mat so that those of us who started in the back would know their actual time.
