truly a trail run. I’ve finished it 7 times now. I have never DNF’d here before.
Even when I got off course my first time. Be patient. the time cutoffs are generous! If you want to finish, just keep going. You can finish it, if I can, cuz I’m back of the back of the pack runner. can’t whine, can’t be too confident, unless you’ve run this race before. Know that it will be rocky. Train on rockiest of single track trails, and you should be good to go. Very easy trail markers already there, and a few extra markings where one could get confused. Friendliest of volunteers, and great offerings of food.

Good Fall Marathon in New England. Great race volunteers! Downhill Start gets the runners spread out quickly. only a couple of out and backs where one can see the runners ahead and behind. Point to Point makes it better race for me, and I heard, other people too. The finish line energy made me so happy!

know that this is a small race, with no spectators, and very few runners out there with you. Double out and back in two different directions… I liked this course format, so you can see some people out there in the middle of nowhere, and in the dark hours. Definitely carry your own nutrition… gels are all they got with water and some other energy drinks. Bring your own caffeinated beverage. or caffeine pills. none offered there. It is a MIDNIGHT start, so you should know to read the race details, and know that you need to provide your own methods to stay awake in the overnight hours. GORGEOUS scenery once the sun begins to rise. Gorgeous scenery when the starts shine brightly. Long 2 and a half hour bus ride out to Rachel NV and the same amount of time returning to the host hotel in Vegas. I loved this race.

definitely glad I signed up for the 12 vs. 6 hour. Not trained at all to run in 90-100 degrees with Very Little Breeze today! Every little breeze we did feel was SO WELCOMED. 3.3 mile loop made for a PERFECT course for a HOT race–you have option of dropping if you feel too heat exhausted. DNF does not only mean ‘did not finish–it also means Did Nothing Fatal! Definitely train in HEAT if you want to have a decent experience. Late July in Oklahoma is no joke, similar to anywhere else, except the Southern Hemisphere! There’s a reason for this race being called, “SWEAT, not Sweet, HOT Oklahoma Summer Trials!” You’re definitely on “Trial” to see if you can pass the test for this extreme HEAT in an mostly hot asphalt, very little shade, course! Very nice to meet some KIND runners, and volunteers today!! I just needed a marathon distance to satisfy the requirements for the 50 State Full Marathon Club, and I’m so glad I came here! Met some runners who had finished some of the same races I ran in the years past. KIND, solo aid station worker in the middle of the loop helped me immensely! I am very grateful indeed!

The race description makes it clear. You know what you should expect just from reading the course description. Small field, so not for runners who need crowd support or to make friends if going solo. Perfect race for me. I prefer running alone, especially when it’s during a HOT month of July – August. Aid stations had basic supplies–but no bananas that I was used to seeing at organized races. I would return, if I didn’t need to finish 10 more States to get them all done.

After hearing that it was a COLD race day last year, it was a perfect weather day. The tough part came when the half marathoners were finishing, and the marathoners had another (but different) loop to circle. After that point, the race became easier. This was my 34th State finish of 50 full marathon goal, on the Holy Weekend (between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday) and because of the timing, this race was special to me. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me out there including a woman who paced a 5 hour marathon group. Her kind, brief comments to me were deeply heartfelt. I had no idea who she was, but she said she “knew” me. how heartwarming!
