This was one of my favorite races. It is run on state route 128, also known as the Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway in Moab, Utah. The road is closed for the race which made it even more enjoyable. This is NOT run in or near the national park. This year was an out and back race starting at Lions Park at the upper edge of town. Which is where packet p/u is the day before. P/U was smooth and they offered additional apparel of hats and shirts. This years shirt was beautiful but is was a cotton shirt (that would be my only complaint on the swag). They’ve run a pt to pt in previous years that would finish in town. The course is a little rolling and on the way back you finish on the bike path leading into the park. The scenery was stunning as you run in the canyon and along the Colorado River the entire time. There is very little crowd support which is fine by me but some people need it. There was less than 800 that ran the 1/2. Finish line was back in the park and just the basic post race food. Mad Moose events put on the race and did a great job. My only knock is there was no communication leading up to the race from the race director BUT they do provide all the info in the Race guide on their website. There is NO parking at the start and you need to take the shuttle to the start line if you stay elsewhere. We flew into Grand Junction, CO and drove 1 1/2 hrs to get to the race and stayed at the Fairfield Inn which is only a 1/2 mile from the start.
I highly recommend this race and would do it again.

Small town race that apparently hadn’t been run the past 3 years. The race consisted of a half marathon, 10k and 5k. There was a 10k/5k challenge for those that didn’t want the half. We ran the half and there were 127 finishers. My wife and I flew from out of town to run this race. We stayed in Winter Haven about 25 minutes up the road, there were some smaller motels closer but we are Marriott people. The race started and finished at Frostproof (yes, that is really the name of the town!) High School. The race is primarily run on clay roads (don’t wear white sneakers like I did!) thru the orange groves. Beautiful course and nice views of the lake. Around mile 3-5 was a little bit of a climb. You could smell the oranges as we ran. The roads are open to traffic but there were practically no cars and they did a great job of having someone there to stop traffic as needed. Mile markers were every mile and spot on for distance and water stops every 2 miles with water and Gatorade. Only mile 4 didn’t have someone manning it. Mile 10 had a plethora of snacks. Finish line had a ton of food along with orange juice and BBQ. Swag was great. Tech shirt along with a 5′ x 4′ soft blanket and a good size medal. Only cons were not much if any crowd support and no shade. The night before was raining cats and dogs. Cleared up in the morning and the course actually was pretty dry. We then had overcast skies for most of the race but once the sun broke thru the heat and humidity kicked in and coming from Ohio was a killer for us. Great communication from race directors week leading up to the race. I would recommend this race and would run it again.

This was my favorite race . The scenery was unbeatable. For most of the course you are in the shadow of Devils Tower. Start/finish line is at the KOA and for a mile you run on a paved road. After that it gets difficult. Rolling hills and no shade. It was overcast on race day so that was a plus. I knew it was a trail but it was basically a rutted jeep road with rocks which made, at least for me, difficult to run on. On the way back to the KOA you run some single track through the prairie dog town. Just be careful not to veer off in fear on a burrow hole. Then back through the KOA for the last 3 miles for an out and back and more views of Devils Tower. The support along the course was great. Water and pretzels at the last aid station. Finish line had the usual goodies.
Packet PU was easy. We did ours the day before and there was a 5k the night before the 1/2. There was an option at sign up for a sweatshirt and dri fit hat with the same logo. Swag was a soft T in red with the DT logo. Same for the sweatshirt and hat. There were hats available day on race but no more sweatshirts. Plenty of communication beforehand from RD. We flew into Rapid City a couple days before then we stayed in Sundance, which was about 30 minutes out. If you book early enough you can stay at cabins at the KOA and they show Close Encounters of the Third Kind every night. My only knock on the race is that there was supposedly a beer/wine fest after the race? And we had to pay for a breakfast burrito. I did ask the RD for a beer after the race and he gave me a ticket to get one from the KOA store.
All in all I would definitely do this race again.

I can’t say enough about this race. All Community Events put on a great race. My wife and I traveled from Cleveland to run this race and stayed downtown. I ran the the half and my wife did the 10k. The communication through emails leading up to the race was outstanding. Packet pick up was offered Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday at the local Dick’s Sporting Goods during race week. None on Friday which was a little disappointing for us out of towners. We did pick up race morning which was a little hectic. We got there early enough and there were enough parking spots, even got FREE parking! There were plenty of porta potties available before the race and during the course as well as enough water stops.
All runners, Half Marathon and 10k started together but in 3 different corrals depending on your pace with a 5 minute lapse between and then turned into a rolling start. The course started at Montrose Harbor which is just north of downtown and followed the Lakefront Trail which was open to other runners and bikers during the race but didn’t cause any problems. The course was a mix of limestone and pavement. The only problem here was that it rained the night before and there were numerous puddles that runners were trying to avoid and was a little sloppy. Then the course turned back southbound heading back towards the city. The 10k runners eventually broke off as the half marathoners headed towards Lincoln Park. At about mile 8.5 we then turned around and headed back towards the finish. The mile markers were spot on with my Garmin except for mile 9 which was a quarter mile off? Not sure why. Maybe with the buildings and being near the city but at mile 10 my watch and mile markers were correct. The race to the finish was back on the limestone which again was littered with puddles so I had to zig zag a little bit but not a problem. Upon finishing we received our medals from local firefighters. The views were outstanding as we had Lake Shore Drive on one side and Lake Michigan on the other as well as views of different harbors along the way.
All in all it was a great race production. The swag was your choice of a
dri fit T or a lightweight sweatshirt (which we chose). The medal was nice with the Chicago skyline on it. The after party had a band and offered your choice of either a Italian beef sandwich or hot dog from Portillos (local Chicago favorite) with a fixings bar. Oranges and protein bars were also available. Beer was Miller Lite. This was my only complaint.. why not offer Goose Island?
A little over 3000 people ran this race.
All in all I would do this race again and would also do another race by All Community Events.

About 10 minutes south of Portsmouth NH. My wife and I stayed the weekend in Portsmouth NH after flying into Boston. Packet p/u was easy as we did on Saturday at the state park or you could’ve done day of race. Despite the cold windy conditions the volunteers were very courteous.
The swag was ok. Got a long sleeved tech shirt and bag with the logo on it but nothing else. Which is fine but no coupons and paraphenalia from local establishments. The medal was awesome looking but didn’t have the date. Race day was cool (46 degrees) and rainy. Plenty of parking and its close to the start. They could’ve had a few more porta potties. Start time was 8:00 but walkers were allowed to start at 7:15. They started in waves which I believe they did to ease the congestion on the road. There were only about 400 people that ran.
The course was open to traffic and ran along the coastline for the first 2 miles then turned inland then along the water again for the last 2 miles.
Despite being open to traffic there never was any cars to be concerned about and police and volunteers were at every crossing of the road. There was not alot of crowd support but the ones that were out were very enthusiastic.
The finish line was great but had a 90 degree turn to the finish at the final 100 meters after coming off a downhill.
Results were almost instant and the snacks and food post race was plentiful. There were cooking burgers and also had veggie burgers for those that preferred. We did receive race pictures a few days later but the ones we took afterwards on the beach were picturesque.
I would recommend this race.
