Run in the shadow of the First US National Monument…Devils Tower, Wyoming and view the Tower from exclusive perspectives as you run on the historic Campstool Ranch.
Come stay for an entire weekend of family-friendly events including 3 race distances, beer and wine fest with live music, hay rides, and Chuckwagon dinner Saturday night. All finishers will receive a commemorative finisher’s medal. Walker friendly, course is open for 4 hours.
Course Description
The Half Marathon will start and finish at the Devils Tower KOA with a figure 8 type course. We call it a Ranch Run because the terrain will be a mix of trails, dirt ranch roads, gravel roads and about 2 miles of paved road. The Fast 5K and Kids 1K will be a loop starting and finishing at the Devils Tower KOA on Saturday.
Most of the course is closed for spectators. We encourage you to cheer for your runners at the start and finish at the Devils Tower KOA.
Aid Stations and Port-o-lets
Approximately every 3 miles (3,6,9,12). All aid stations will have the following: water; Powerade; banana chunks; and pretzels. Portapotties at mile 6.

This was my favorite race . The scenery was unbeatable. For most of the course you are in the shadow of Devils Tower. Start/finish line is at the KOA and for a mile you run on a paved road. After that it gets difficult. Rolling hills and no shade. It was overcast on race day so that was a plus. I knew it was a trail but it was basically a rutted jeep road with rocks which made, at least for me, difficult to run on. On the way back to the KOA you run some single track through the prairie dog town. Just be careful not to veer off in fear on a burrow hole. Then back through the KOA for the last 3 miles for an out and back and more views of Devils Tower. The support along the course was great. Water and pretzels at the last aid station. Finish line had the usual goodies.
Packet PU was easy. We did ours the day before and there was a 5k the night before the 1/2. There was an option at sign up for a sweatshirt and dri fit hat with the same logo. Swag was a soft T in red with the DT logo. Same for the sweatshirt and hat. There were hats available day on race but no more sweatshirts. Plenty of communication beforehand from RD. We flew into Rapid City a couple days before then we stayed in Sundance, which was about 30 minutes out. If you book early enough you can stay at cabins at the KOA and they show Close Encounters of the Third Kind every night. My only knock on the race is that there was supposedly a beer/wine fest after the race? And we had to pay for a breakfast burrito. I did ask the RD for a beer after the race and he gave me a ticket to get one from the KOA store.
All in all I would definitely do this race again.
