Small town race that apparently hadn’t been run the past 3 years. The race consisted of a half marathon, 10k and 5k. There was a 10k/5k challenge for those that didn’t want the half. We ran the half and there were 127 finishers. My wife and I flew from out of town to run this race. We stayed in Winter Haven about 25 minutes up the road, there were some smaller motels closer but we are Marriott people. The race started and finished at Frostproof (yes, that is really the name of the town!) High School. The race is primarily run on clay roads (don’t wear white sneakers like I did!) thru the orange groves. Beautiful course and nice views of the lake. Around mile 3-5 was a little bit of a climb. You could smell the oranges as we ran. The roads are open to traffic but there were practically no cars and they did a great job of having someone there to stop traffic as needed. Mile markers were every mile and spot on for distance and water stops every 2 miles with water and Gatorade. Only mile 4 didn’t have someone manning it. Mile 10 had a plethora of snacks. Finish line had a ton of food along with orange juice and BBQ. Swag was great. Tech shirt along with a 5′ x 4′ soft blanket and a good size medal. Only cons were not much if any crowd support and no shade. The night before was raining cats and dogs. Cleared up in the morning and the course actually was pretty dry. We then had overcast skies for most of the race but once the sun broke thru the heat and humidity kicked in and coming from Ohio was a killer for us. Great communication from race directors week leading up to the race. I would recommend this race and would run it again.
Nice but could be better

This was the first year they moved it from Tavares to Haines City and the course was a million times better. Weather in Feb in Florida is great for running and the course was mostly flat (hill in the first mile). A stretch of the course is on compacted clay and was faster than the asphalt portion. Great scenery running on clay roads through orange groves. it was a smaller race and at many parts there were few people around me which contributed to the overall feel of the race which was awesome. 10/10 would recommend!
