Berlin offered nice weather, a relatively flat course, wonderful spectators, and really well organized pre-race administration. However, I think that the huge crowd due to the 50th Anniversary was a bit overwhelming. It was nearly impossible to get to the aid stations since they were positioned on only one side of the streets. If you love extremely crowded races, then this one is for you. I’m glad that I went, but I probably wouldn’t ever do this one again.

This was one of my best races internationally as a result of a flat course with reasonably cool weather. It was colorful and vibrant, but the organization could have been slightly better. It was challenging to stand in the rain to await bib pickup, but the actual expo (once you got indoors) was not bad. There was some odd issue with a bump in the road at the finish that should definitely be addressed. The encouraging crowd was spectacular!

The Spa Running Festival is my current hometown event (includes 5k, 10k, & half marathon). I have raced the 10k previously, but this year was the first time to get to do the half marathon. This course is very tough due to two long, hard climbs; however, you get tremendous payoff from your energy investment in the downhill and beautiful Fall scenery (in a National Park, no less). I can’t say enough positives about the organization, the food afterwards, and the sweet shirt/medals afforded to finishers!
