If you despise hills, this is not for you :S
I have run this race for many years, both half and full marathons and I feel like the courses have changed quite a bit throughout the years. Last year we ran on 520, and I think one year up to Queen Anne to Kerry park area.

One thing that is constant is that whatever route is the current one, there are always hills. However with uphills, there are also downhills which made it more enjoyable.

I have enjoyed this race for many years, if you don’t mind hills and a fun challenge, I would highly recommend this race.

This was my first race where half of the course was on trails (rocks, grass, unpaved roads, etc.) and naturally I was intimidated since I am inexperienced in trail running and do not have trail running shoes. However the race turned out to be better than expected.

I think that it’s definitely a good idea to practice on uphill terrains as there is a 1000+ elevation in the course and try to practice on some trails if you are able to. The 1st 6 to 7 miles is in the woods with mostly unpaved road but the rest of the marathon is on paved roads with some elevation.

The race is very organized and the volunteers are wonderful. I am excited to check out other races by this org.

This is my second year running this race and I foresee myself coming back again next year.

The 30K course will take you along the waterfront, Birch Bay State Park for the first half of the race and the last half will be a bit challenging with rolling hills.

This is definitely one of the most beautiful races I have participated in in the PNW, if you aren’t feeling the hills, the 15K course will be relatively flat.

I personally like running by the water and scenic views, and this route mostly feature different residential neighbors.

Like any other RnR races, this is very well organized pre and post race.

It’s definitely very hilly for the 1st half, but it tapers out and there were more downhills at the latter half, despite all the hills, I had a lot of fun running this race and love the Big Foot sighting.

Another well organized and scenic race, it was very enjoyable.

Orca running knocked it out of the park once again.
This was the hottest race of the year, grateful that the course is flat and 90% of the course is in the shade making the late start time 8:30am manageable.

Love that Orca running always provide great food other than bananas and granola bar after each race. They usually do tomato soup but today was chili!

The race is also cupless, making it more environmentally friendly.

This is my second time running the San Diego half and it was a little overwhelming for me.

The route wasn’t very scenic, and it was uphill most of the time. The finish line was hectic probably since it was in downtown, it was tough for spectators or for finished runners to get pictures and enjoyed the race after.

I am a big fan of RnR so i am only making a comparisons to the other cities I have run in.

I have run a handful of Orca Running events and the team always pick the most beautiful places: Bainbridge, Lake Washington, Birch Bay, Snoqualmie valley, etc.

Not only were every single race organized, the staff always goes above and beyond to make sure the runner are having a great time.

Aid stations were fully stocked with drinks, gels and friendly volunteers, communications has been plentiful, and parking instructions are always great and clear.

The course itself wasn’t the most challenging compared to most races in Seattle with a million steep hills, overall the course was relatively flat until you hit around 12mile mark, then there was a lot of gradual uphill but it was not terrible.

I enjoy the course and race day was pretty organized for a local race, markers were clear the finish line leads you to the beautiful cherry blossoms at the Quad.

I personally do not enjoy long stretch of straight route so the course wasn’t very exciting when you exited UW to Burke Gilman Trail, however that is just a personal preference, overall the course is flat so it was easy.

Packet pick up on the other hand needs major improvement. The pack up location was at a large parking lot by UW but there were so few volunteers and it was overall disorganized that it created tons of traffic going into the parking lot. Once you were inside, there was another long line for packet pick up. Folks said that they waited for at least 2.5 hours before they even got their packets (some even longer from waiting in traffic to get into the lot). I ended up leaving because I didnt have an extra 3 hours to spare and had to run without a bib and the complimentary shirt.
