I love running through these woods. This is my second time running the Soaring Eagle Trail Run with Evergreen Trail Runs, but my first time participating in the half.
The course is fun, and approachable for any level of trail running experience (in my opinion). Some roots, and rocks. Some hills. But nothing too extreme.
I really enjoyed the scenery and appreciated the very clear course markings which made it easy to just focus on my run.

Recap: 2022 Birch Bay Road Race 15k

I love this race! Honestly, I kinda want to leave it at that, but then I wouldn’t get to brag on the amazing crew of Orca Running staff and volunteers that made this race so wonderful.

First, I love a race that has super easy parking! Sometimes it’s the little things.

Moving on…

The start/finish area was super well organized. Pre-race I had plenty of time to greet friends, visit the porta potty, and get myself ready to run. Post-race I got my medal, shirt, and snacks with little to no waiting in line.

This course is so beautiful! There are amazing views of Birch Bay for most of the 15k, and when you do turn inland it’s into a very pleasant forested area. Running along the water brings with it some wind, but it’s well worth the views in my opinion.

All the folks at today’s race were so friendly and supportive! Runners, volunteers, and staff!!! I ran in my Where’s Waldo costume and so many people offered shout outs, support, and various other joyful reactions.

It was an absolutely gorgeous morning for a run!

This was my first time running an 8k event, so hooray for the auto-PR!!! 🤣 I kid. Kind of.

Orca Running did an amazing job putting on another race smoothly in spite of the ever changing circumstances caused by COVID-19. Every step of the way the process was smooth even with new requirements from the county!

The course follows a paved trail along the river which I found really relaxing. Many participants ran in costume (many more complicated than my own costume attempt) which I found really, REALLY fun!

How do you make a 5k unique and special? Well Orca Running achieved that by partnering with The Museum of Flight to be able to host a race where runners start off running through the museum’s outdoor exhibit of iconic aircraft. Then it’s out to the road for the bulk of the distance. But that’s nothing to sneeze at either! Depending on the weather and Boeing’s inventory you may get to run past Boeing aircraft waiting to be delivered to their airlines, and after the first U-turn you may have views of Mount Rainier. Then it’s a race to the finish back amongst those icons of aviation!

For this road race, participants run on the shoulder of roads along Birch Bay. There are gorgeous views of the water. Any water front coarse will be exposed to the wind, and we were definitely running in some wind on 4/10/2021. Orca Running have a great system for keeping everyone safe and in compliance with WA state COVID-19 protocol. It was a wonderful event and I had so much fun!
