This race was pretty much as advertised. Flat course (great for a PR or BQ attempt), great crowd support and race production, and overall a great city to run in. Water stations were plentiful with some even handing out gels. Plenty to see along the course from the city to the suburbs to the parks, this race offered a little bit of everything in the scenery department. There was tons of crowd support throughout most of the course. The only slight negative I would give is that the pre-race areas were packed. This led to very long and confusing lines for the porta-potties, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time pre-race to navigate that. Overall this was a fantastic event that I would highly recommend for anyone in the Indiana area or for those looking to check off a race in this state.

If you like your marathons to feel more like a peaceful solo run through the woods then this is the race for you. Most of the course is flat and shaded as you run along the river. Notice I said most. The first 6 miles are downhill and this is an out and back course, which means miles 20-26.2 are a steady incline of about 1,200 feet. Overall, it was well done by the event staff but I believe some volunteers didn’t show up and water stations were lacking. That being said, I would recommend this race to those looking to check off West Virginia on their 50 state challenge, just don’t plan for a PR.

Enjoyed seeing the different areas of the city. Water stations were plentiful and crowd support was great as well, with lots of people handing out bananas, candy, ice pops, and beer. This is not a great PR course as it was very hilly and mostly in the back half of the race. Overall, really enjoyed the city and the race weekend. Would do again but definitely with more focus on hills during training!
