I’ve done this race 4 times. I like the challenging hills, wild flowers, and the section along the creek. The crew is always awesome, t-shirts are the best, and the medals are the coolest! This year the rain turned the clay soil into slick goop. I will do this race again, unless it is raining.

This is my seventh year doing this race. They changed the route a little and I think it was an improvement on what was already a great course. The 5k is challenging, but definitely doable for al levels. Best T-shirts, race bag, and medals of any races I’ve done. The organizers, volunteers, and other runners are always a good group.

This race is tough, tough, tough – high elevation, rocky ankle- twisting terrain, a heartbreaking uphill at the end. But running/walking at night with senses on high alert is what makes this race special. I chose the 8:00 pm start time and was treated to a rainbow on the chair lift ride to the starting line and to a beautiful sunset. Because of the all night starting window, I spent most the race is solitude, and several times was able to stop, turn off my head lamp, and marvel at the splendor of the night sky. Like all Vacation Races- the support crew was kind, organized and top notch. The other racers were friendly, patent, and encouraging as they passed on narrow rocky trails. Brians Head is a great weekend getaway- Ceder Breaks NM, Bryce NP, and Zion NP are easy day trips.

When you cross the finish line line, you have a feeling of accomplishment and one of the coolest medals to prove it. This race isn’t kidding when it says it has killer hills, But it also has wonderful views and beautiful wildflowers. The course is well marked and the volunteers are enthusiastic and friendly. If you are a serious competitor you might feel frustrated because most the race is a single trail that is difficult to pass on, The participants in general get over as soon as it’s possible.

This race is a tradition for me and my two sons. The course is challenging but doable. Both the volunteers and runners are friendly and supportive. The scenery is like running on Mars (at least in my imagination).Bonus- this race has the best T-shirts and finisher medals.
