Stavanger Marathon is a running festival which offers different distances. I ran the half marathon. Start is in downtown right at the lake and staying in one of the hotels in downtown makes it all easy. It took me not even 5 minutes from my hotel (Radisson Blue) to the start. The course takes you right out of the city and the whole course is a bit challenging, but very beautiful with stunning views mostly along the waterside. The finish is in downtown where the start was. Good atmosphere at the start/finish area! Super beautiful medal! All in all a very good and well organised race!

Stavanger, Norway, was a wonderful race. The course routes through town and a part of it is on cobblestone (not too much, though). The scenery throughout the race was worth it. We stayed at a hotel that was walking distance to the race start. Race day had perfect weather. The race was well organized and marked. You don’t need to know how to speak Norwegian.

This is a perfect excuse for a vacation in Norway. The country is very beautiful and has a lot to offer. Not only did we do the race, we visited the Priekestolen a.k.a. Pulpit Rock. This is a rocky hike to a plateau with a 604 meter straight drop into the Lyseford. We also climbed the Flori 4444 stairs. Yes, there are 4444 stairs up the mountain that took us 2.5 hours and then a 3.5 hour hike down the mountain.

Wow, what an amazing experience – after talking with you at the Ventura expo, Renee, we immediately added Reykjavik-followed-by-Stavanger to our "future races" itinerary. And your reviews are a great starting point. I assume you must have hiked Pulpit Rock and the Flori 4444 stairs after the race? Can't imagine running 13.1 or 26.2 miles with all that up-and-down already in my legs. Thanks so much for the valuable insights, and hope you'll continue to share your racing adventures here on RaceRaves! LESS
