The parking and shuttle worried me, but it went very smoothly. The bus was waiting to take us to the start and at the end we had to wait just a few minutes before we were shuttled back. The race started on a paved bike path. There were a few hills on this section of the race. As we went up the railroad trail and through the tunnels we ran on packed soil with some small rocks. After the last tunnel, the loop by Hoover Dam was the most challenging part of the course. It was steep and a little more rocky. The snacks were fine at the end – nothing too exciting. Awards were given out quickly, so not much waiting around. The shirt wasn’t a tech shirt, but I didn’t mind. The medal was nice. The age group award winners received a glass.
This was my Nevada race and I loved the views of Lake Mead and desert environment. A person played the bagpipes as we ran under the first tunnel which I thought was a nice touch. It’s a small race, but organized. The workers were friendly and helpful.
My husband ran the 5K and there was some confusion about the turnaround point.

This is a non-event race. Very good for local runners, however the area people have already complained about different things, one being parking. No more than 500 total all races. Two long hills, this is not a trail race, most is on pavement so not good for trail shoes. Tunnels are cool but I thought there were 4, but nice event. I ran this 4 years ago+-, it was fun. very average now. Good for a local run and local folks.

I ran this race as a way to visit Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. The race was mostly on a non-technical gravel road. I recall not needing trail shoes for it. It was a scenic course with views of Lake Meade on part of it. I would run this course again if I lived closer. The race was well organized and the volunteers were helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic. I received a nice finisher medal and framed certificate for placing in my age group.
I made a mistake of staying on the Vegas strip, which is overpriced and sucks in general. If I ran the race again, I would stay in Boulder City or someplace similar, ignore the strip, and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds Las Vegas. I was shocked at how low the water level in Lake Meade was when I was there and I am sure it has only gotten worse. I wonder what Vegas plans on doing if/when the water level drops so low that the Hoover Dam can’t function?
