If you enter a Revel race thinking all downhill is easy-peasy, your body will let you know this is not the case. The muscles used for downhill are not accustomed to steady use for any length of time.
If another Revel race fits what I’m looking for, I would do it. So very well run!

If you enter a Revel race thinking all downhill is easy-peasy, your body will let you know this is not the case. The muscles used for downhill are not accustomed to steady use for any length of time.

This was an amazing race. The 2,000 ft elevation decline definitely helped me score a new PR by over 5 minutes! Production and swag were pretty good, the other critique I have is that it was really, really cold at the start and you basically just stand around on the side of the road in the desert for a hour, minimum. I’m not sure if there is anything else they could do at the start (like a tent or some heaters) but that was the only downside to the race for me. The course was so fast, before I knew it I was at mile 8 where the course flattens out (still downhill but not nearly at the same level as the first 8 miles). That made the last 5 miles feel longer and harder. The scenery was beautiful, but if you’re looking for lots of crowd support this is not your race, as there are no spectators along the course until the last mile or less.
Overall, highly recommend especially if you are looking to post a PR!

This was my second Revel race, i ran Big Bear in 2023. The Revel company really knows how t run an event. The logistics of moving every one to the full start, went flawlessly. Plenty of water stops along the route, gels offered too. The race start temp at the top of Mt Charleston was 22 degrees, they had propane heaters to keep us warm as we waited to start. The Expo was fun, plenty of running related vendors. The finish festival had vendors offering massages, etc. This is an event you can truly PR, unfortunately for me i was nursing a sore hamstring that killed my time.

This was my third Revel Series race as I’ve run their Rockies full and Big Cottonwood half and love the Revel races! Much improved transportation via nice buses (not school buses like in the Rockies) to the starting area. You just cannot not enjoy the scenery coming down the mountain with snow still surrounding the course. However, there was a section at the bottom as you left the mountain road that went through a construction area that was not the most pleasant and needs to be addressed in the future. Very steep decline at the top with a few unexpected short uphill portions that, thank goodness, were early in the race. Mostly a gradual descent after about mile 9 until some small rolling hills a few miles before the finish. Plenty of aid stations along the way, so you should not have any issues here.
I think some people have the idea that because of the elevation drop that this is a cheater course to BQ. Not even close as this presents a totally different challenge than a flat course. Luckily I’m a pretty slim guy, so the quad thrashing that was getting to quite a few folks at the bottom of the mountain was not so bad for me. Believe me when I say this: you will have difficulty once out of the mountains if you do not train and get acclimated to running down such a steep slope. I also learned from the Rockies race that you need to have a little extra room in the toe box of your shoes as your toes will be pressing hard against the front of your shoes during the upper/steeper portions of the race and, if you don’t have this room, it will be an excruciatingly painful last 6 miles for your feet.
I’m not a big swag guy, but you do get a really cool “ticket” to Boston if you BQ (yes, I did!). Glad I opted for the nicer tri-blend finisher’s shirt, and the medal with the turtle mascot on it is really nice, too. One thing I really like about the Revel Series of races is that everything is included in the cost of the entry fee: transportation to the starting line, swag, pictures AND a YouTube video to boot!

This is a must do race for Nevada. It provides the best of both worlds – Las Vegas and beautiful Mt Charleston. The host hotel – The Tuscany – was fine for me because it was not in the middle of the strip. The packet pickup was a little far out of town but it was next to an upscale outlet mall and there were lots of places to shop and eat. I paid the $40 for the direct shuttle from The Tuscany and it took us straight to the top of the starting line (at 3:30 am!) It was extremely cold but the race provided those aluminum foil blankets. Also it was pitch dark when the race began but you got to enjoy the sunrise! The first 6 miles were downhill which takes no effort to run. The only bad thing was that the rest of the half was through a flat residential area. The race also provides free race pictures and some decent after race snacks. The shirt was pretty good and also a goody bag and hat were given. There was also some additional shirts to buy. Overall – I would highly recommend this race – easy to get in and out of and such great race production!

My BQ average pace should’ve been 7:37min/mi and I’m averaging 7:29min/mi up until mile 20. To my excitement and positive mindset, I was thinking I’ll get to beat that qualifying time for my age 47 @3:20. Unfortunately I got carried away and jumped at the photographer like Michael Jordan and my run wasn’t the same anymore and cramped up until the finish line.

This was exactly as advertised – fast and beautiful! I took the shuttle from the Strip and it worked out well. You can run some very fast miles but you do pay for it…my legs were chewed up worse than usual those last few miles so I wonder if that offset some of the gain. There is a lot of attention on this race as a BQ but I think this race is for anyone, BQ or not! This was my 18th marathon (including Boston) so for me this was about running a different kind of race. I did end up running a faster time than I expected which to me was just a bonus.

Revel Races runs a great race. I hadn’t done any of their races, but I found their production extremely well done. Tons of communication leading up to the race. Great race app that talks to you during the race – even you friends can text you cheers (converted to voice). Downhill course is very fast but can be difficult for novice runners not accustomed to declines. Over 5100′ of downhill, with the top part of the race very steep (4%). Also, with elevation, comes temperature change. The start was 25 degrees, and the gather location was surrounded by deep snow. The finish was upper 60s, with bright sun and a very dry southwest breeze; layering was key. Buses to the start were easy (although ours got lost and we arrived a little closer to the start time than I like). The road was closed, and any local traffic was well controlled by state and local police. Excellent aid stations well stocked.

This was my 7th race with Revel, some changes I do not like, course was good, it was put together well, Medal was great, however, finish line was sad, food, drink-sad, they dropped the box lunch, they dropped the mud/insulated drinking cup, the retail was sad as I never carry credit cards in a race, worker enthusiasm was not there. So, in my view, on a scale of 1-10, old rating a 12, they have dropped to a 5 or less. Rather sad. Just focused on the money.

This is a 5000 ft downhill course, descending from winter conditions at the peak and constantly descending for 21 downhill miles before flattening out in suburban Las Vegas.
Pros: friendly, accommodating people who don’t nickel and dime (peer pics and a generous refund policy), gorgeous and fast course. Great volunteers and satisfactory support.
Race swag and medal were standard corporate issue and really needs to be better customized to the race.

This was my first marathon. Revel really does a great job with their races. Great EXPO, VERY well organized race day. Great facebook pages to get to know other runners and also do course reviews with Coach Paul. Being my first marathon I really wanted to take it easy in the last few miles as the weather got hot, would like to come back some day and try for a faster time! My wife volunteered at the finish and really had a good time with that as well.

I was a little worried about the downhill, (my 4th downhill that kills my quads every time) but I enjoyed listening to Coach Paul’s Facebook updates that did help me get a better state of mind. Such a well run event. Revel Races should take over Rock N Rolls for putting on a marathon.
Expo had fun photo opps, great Revel products to purchase and good vendors! The race itself was so nicely managed from the buses to the start (nice buses), start line encouragement, to great course safety with cones the entire way and police escorts for opposing traffic! Water stops were plenty except I would’ve liked one extra one at mile 25. The finish line food was good (I’m happy just with chocolate milk) The medal was beautiful but I’m also a crazy turtle lady! ..And they had another option than beer at the beer tent! Shuttles back to the strip were very convenient. Oh and did I mention free photos? What race does that? Had a blast with running friends for a quick weekend in Vegas! This was my Nevada for 50 states and state 41. Very pleased I held out for 2 years of postponements to run this!

This race is well-organized, run by staff and volunteers. I was very impressed by everyone I encountered, from the expo all the way through race day. I didn’t BQ, mainly due to altitude and heat. I did Coach Paul Carmona’s training program, which I recommend for anyone’s first downhill race. I felt very ready, but it just wasn’t my day. Still finished dater than my last marathon. Thinking about signing up for another Revel race, and I will sign up again for Coach Paul’s program, sooner in the training season this time.

I love this race. I’ve run both the marathon and half marathon twice. The marathon is wicked fast! I PR’d with a 3:27 and easily made my BQ time by over 35 minutes! The half is great also. Finishing in comfortable temps was a plus. The swag is great, nice large, shiny medals. Buses are very nice and on time. Love the flexibility the series offers. I miss the Goodr Sunglasses though that were previously in the swag bag. I would advise not getting your packet on race day. Mine was not there. Race Director was very responsive. I definitely want to keep running this one because of the fast course(s) !

They had the best communication practice, several emails and easy to find race information.
The day of the race buses were very organized and staff members were very kind. Aid stations were complete, and ready to go with water, hydration water and refueling gels.
Scenery was beautiful it begins on the mountain and down the canyon where you can’t even notice the hills on the race. After mile 13 to 22 is a gravity runners high and let gravity takes it course.
The last hill on 23 makes you work for it and then you are done!
This is my 9th marathon not only I qualified for Boston for the first time but I also got a 5 minute buffer. HUGE PR for me!!!! Coming back on 2023!!!
