Man and Beast compete shoulder-to-shoulder through the High Desert and Sierra Mountains surrounding the Indian Wells Valley. This is one of four opportunities to compete like this on the planet and we’re proud to bring it to you. If you’re a rider and a member of the AERC, you’ll be happy to know that you’re logging miles. Runners, if you’re a member of the SoCal Grandprix series, you’re also logging miles towards season awards, so go BIG! and have an amazing run!
AWARDS:
Besides an amazing time with friends and killer scenery, participants will be presented with an ice cold beverage of their choice; made on-site and served in a ‘Man vs Horse’ souvenir pint glass. Choose from an ‘Indian Wells Brewing Co’ micro-brewed beer, locally crafted ‘Rocket Fizz’ soda or delicious spring water from local artesian wells. Participants also receive lunch after the race and a custom t-shirt. All finishers will be adorned with a custom crafted finishers medal to commemorate their experience.

I loved this run LAST year even though I missed a turn. Included in your entry are – a nice long pull, some great whoop-de-doos, sweeping downhill at the end – and the very BEST aid stations and peeps around. I COULD have ridden my horse but wanted to celebrate my 60th birthday just showing myself that I could do it again. I will be back!
Daunting and humbling experience!

This is a fairly tough desert course – can’t be compared with its sister race OTHTC 50k in Ridgecrest. Heat, hills and sand are challenging factors which will strip you to who you are. Course is well marked. Desert scenery & trails leading to old mines are stunning. Indian Wells Brewery’s Cola/Ale and juicy oranges were my favorite from the aid-stations. Being a low profile race, the best part is the community which takes care of your needs and safety – volunteers sprayed water on me & put ice in my Buff during exposed sections.
Missed turn - 3 extra miles BUT LOVED it

PAY ATTENTION – bring plenty of water. Stopped to help someone about 500 yards before the turn off to the finish, and after helping her went back on the trail JUST PAST the turn off so went an extra 3 miles. I FINISHED though lol! The tow people I stopped to help lacked water and one had no fuel whatsoever. repave to be self sufficient – but the AID STATIONS – GREAT!
Run against horses/mules? Yeah!

Prizes are great. Nice finishing medal/souvenir. You get to the finish line and get an empty glass with the event’s logo on it and you get to fill it with your favorite tap beverage at THE BREWERY, right there (and keep the glass). Beer should be it. YUMS! Then you get fed! And if you ran well you might get a belt buckle for your age group! The shirt is nice too.
It got hot, but the last 7 miles of the marathon are downhill and aid stations every few miles make it totally runnable. I had a great race day and kicked butt.
