I’ve done the Drake Road Races several times – both the 5k and 10k distances. Will be trying out the half marathon course next year! The course goes up and down Kingman Blvd which is a really pretty part of town with old homes and big trees! Both the 10k and 5k are fairly flat and fast courses. Finishing on the blue oval is always a blast. it’s nice for spectators to get to sit in stadium seats to watch the finish! Plus the announcer over the speakers makes it feel like you’re a much bigger deal than just a road race participant 😉

My only complaint from this year was that stuff was difficult to find and could have completely been fixed with some signs. It was impossible for me to find the bag drop and I almost missed the start trying to find it. Then once my bag was dropped it was impossible to find the start! A few signs could have majorly helped with this!

Drake does a spectacular job running the Drake Relaying and hosting a road race for anyone to participate in no matter how fast or slow you run/walk! What I love most about the road race is that the race coordinators makes you feel like you are a athlete in the Drake Relays. This year I competed in the 10k rather than the half and the one thing I disliked was running into the 5k for the last 1.5 miles, I had to zig-zag through participants walking or running at a slower pace.
Overall I absolutely love this race and plan to come back in the following years!

The Drake Relays committee does an amazing job organizing this race along side the Relays. My favorite part of this race is how I can get involved at a large competition while not being in athletics anymore, and then later go watch the competition.

I really appreciated all the support amenities that were put into this race: pacers, plenty of water stations and bathrooms, someone telling us the time on every mile, and lots of friendly faces from the community and the college to urge us on. I also enjoyed the competition. Great race. I hope to run it again next year.

I loved this race. With 800 plus runners, there was always a group to pace off of. The course was great–was able to set a PR. I enjoyed the live music, and best of all were the chocolate chip cookies available afterward! The finisher medals and age group awards were very neat too.

Very exciting, well-run race and amazing to be part of the Drake Relays history as a participant. Easy course, with support, fans and music! This is a must-run-race! MORE

This was my first half. I planned on a 2:45-3 hour finish. Ended up doing way better than expected. Race volunteers and law enforcement were awesome! The unexpected treat was the little kids along the route giving people high fives.

Plenty of aid stations and plenty of portapotties.

While there is a hill thrown in here and there, it’s a pretty easy course. Definitely doing it next year, but I’ll make sure to train better.
