The Cal-Neva Marathon is a boutique marathon limited to 100 runners and is part of the Tahoe Triple. The Cal Neva Marathon will have a new start line at Spooner Summit Snow Play Area and end at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. This marathon can be run a la carte or as part of the Triple Marathon.
The Saturday Cal-Neva Marathon is now a downhill race with a 1400 net elevation drop, making it the fastest of our three marathons. The second half of the marathon is the “Incline Half Marathon.” The first part of the Marathon is in Nevada, and the balance is in California, meaning it can be counted for either state in your quest to run all 50 states.
The views of this race are incredible. It starts at 7000′ and drops 800 feet to lake level, passing along Billionaire Row and running counterclockwise along the lake.
This race is run on the shoulder of the road facing traffic or on the adjacent bike paths if you, as a private citizen, want to. In some spots, the shoulder is very narrow.
There is a different finisher medal for each race and each day, and finisher license plate holders are awarded at the finish. Tech shirts will be awarded at the Expo or finish line. Each race has an overall award, but no age division or other awards will be given to these boutique races.

This is the second race of the Lake Tahoe Trifecta. Right away it started out gorgeous, at the beach! It started out not too bad, but there was a huge and long hill around mile 3. It was steep enough that lots of people were walking it, so be prepared! Fortunately there was a water station at the top of that hill. The turns were not as well-marked on this one, and with being a slow runner there were several times I was unsure which way to go. I even made a wrong turn once. We went through some absolutely gorgeous neighborhoods right on the water, and we were routed through a boat docking area too where the views were beautiful. There were only 3 water stations at this one too, so make sure to bring your own hydration. The time limit is more open than they say, because they did let everyone finish. They also allow slow runners to start early. The race director bombarded us with daily emails which seemed to contradict other things, but even he titled them as “nags.”

Race runs along the northwest shores of Lake Tahoe, lots of elevation changes, only 3 water stops, was a 7-Eleven at mile 5 I was able to get a big gulf at. Super views of nice houses/ lakes, and mountains.
