In 1979 we dreamt of attracting a few hundred of our friends to race though the streets of Boulder, Colorado to celebrate Memorial Day with our families. Fast forward almost 40 years and the BolderBOULDER has grown to become one of the largest and most highly acclaimed 10K’s in the world. … MORE

With 50,000+ runners, there was a smooth start due to the multiple waves. The course was mostly flat winding through the city of Boulder, but I was not used to running at 5000+ elevation. I thought arriving a week early would do the trick, but I still ran around 2 minutes off my PR. The race ended in the Univ. of Colorado stadium, which was a unique experience. There were lots of booths set up outside the stadium with free food, drinks, and other stuff. There was an elite runners team race at the end, which we could watch on the big screen and see them finish once they entered the stadium. Finally, there was a Memorial Day ceremony that included paratroopers from each branch of the military parachuting into the stadium. Overall, a great experience and we were out before 1 PM.

This should be a bucket list race. It goes off in waves, so it’s not really crowded. The spectators are awesome. Finish is on the track at U of Colorado. There can’t be many 10k’s that are a better venue. Altitude will get your attention however. I’d say about 39 seconds a mile difference from running at sea level. They go 15 deep in age groups and not 5 year groups. Each age is a different age group, so pretty good chance to medal if you run hard. They also give a special award for anyone who can run it in a time less than their age.
