Berlin Half is spectacular! With almost 40.000 runners it’s one of the biggest half’s in the world. Flat and fast! You meet running friends from all over the world. Top atmosphere! But: go to the expo as early as possible. Saturday afternoon sucks! Long lines everywhere! Weather conditions at the beginning of April can differ a lot. Last year quite cool, but this year very warm with temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius. I ran Berlin 1 day after Prague why I was more than happy with my performance!

Berlin Half is spectacular! With almost 40.000 runners it’s one of the biggest half’s in the world. Flat and fast! You meet running friends from all over the world. Top atmosphere! Berlin Half Marathon is definitively one of the very best races! The course has been slightly changed this year and is now even better as the finish is now at the Brandenburg Gate similar to the Berlin Marathon. The course is flat and very scenic – a perfect sightseeing tour! Due to the extremely high number of runners (35.500 registered runners / almost 29.000 finishers) it gets a little crowded in the starting area – please be there on time for a little extra waiting time. Weather conditions this year were amazing!

The course hasnt changed, but will change next year! Start and finish will be moved to the area between Brandenburger Tor and Siegessäule (same area as for the full marathon) and the old airport of Tempelhof was used for the expo again. I already registered for 2019….

The almost perfectly flat race attracts 34.000 runners every year and is one of the biggest half marathon events in Europe. From Alexander Square/ TV Tower along “Unter den Linden”, through the Brandenburg Gate, Tierpark, Siegessäule, Castle Charlottenburg, Kurfürstendamm/ Church of Remembrance, Potsdamer Platz and Check Point Charlie- one runs it all and there are spectators everywhere. Great crowd, one of the races of your bucket list.

For all foreign runners: this race is an absolutely must! The very flat and fast course is the best sightseeing course I´ve ever run as you pass by many attractions. The atmosphere is fantastic as most of the course many spectators cheer for the runners. One advise: be at the start at time as due to the 30.000 runners it comes to some lines from time to time. And if you have the chance to get your race package on friday or on saturday late afternoon or evening you won´t have lines there. But if you get your stuff saturday between 12 and 4 pm it can be very crowded at the expo.

Berlin Half Marathon in its 36th edition is one of the must-run spring races in Europe. With coral enforcement and a fast and flat course it is good for a PR and the numerous spectators cheer everyone. Also if you want to enjoy the scenic route through central Berlin and take Pics- you pass along almost every sight. The medals have been the same in years with only variation of motives on the backside. There is no swag. For late-comers or non-residents, there is a same-day bib pick up that is not advertised though.
