Race #25 of 50 states. Pack a pickup and finish line were in Ashton, idaho. There are no corporate hotels in that city, but there are local cabins and local accommodations that you can search for. We stayed in a corporate hotel in Rexburg, about twenty minutes away. Parking was plentiful and easy and race was one of the best race setups I’ve experienced.

Race was both on and off-road. Refuel stations towards the end were supplied by volunteers out of their houses, but were standardized (same fruit, fuel, Gatoradeand water), which was well coordinated and everyone from the race director to the volunteers were wonderful. Second and last half of the race, did not have a lot of shade as you are completing the race through farming fields on open pavement. Cars are aware of race by signage, however, you are running with traffic.

Food tent is amazing. Community was there as well and made up lunch for the runners and family. Navajo Tacos were great.

Day three was Colorado we ran North from four corners monument onto the trail and then did a Switchback Loop and it was multiple laps of that we ended up not able to do the Switchback due to our legs switched to finishing on the road due to our limitations.

Unpredictable weather and pasture-raised spectators made it a bit more challenging. You get on a bus at 0600 at Varney Bridge, takes about an hour to climb the mountain to the marathon start, drop off marathon then traverse back to the 1/2 marathon starting line. There is no shade on this course. Half participants started second at 0800. Sun was up creating a steamy and hot day in July.

We backpacked our own supplies, water food gateraid sunscreen. They call it limoted support but there was support in trucks coming to check on is as well. We finished last but it was a very scenic journey to Varney Bridge and I felt the race coodination was sufficient for the size of field of participants.
