I wanted to do a race in June that was not in a warm climate, so I chose Minnesota. This race was the better option due to logistical reasons. It was a small race, considering others that I’ve completed. The packet pick-up was at one of the local grocery stores. The swag consisted of a drawstring bag, water bottle, and T-shirt. The course was two loops through neighborhoods and a beautiful park. Hydration stations were every two miles or so… which was a good thing. There were a few unexpected rolling hills, but I got over them :). The half-marathon had a 4-hour cut-off, which is good for some of us slower folks. However, some of the runners who finished after the 3-hour mark only received water at the finish line. I’m not sure if they’d run out of the other stuff. Finally, the medal. It was a nice, sleek medal that I will add to my collection.

This was my first experience running the MCM 23. I was so excited, but the race was cut short despite meeting all the cut-off times. It was the next day when I realized why we were diverted. The temperatures were warmer than usual, and there were several medical emergencies. My race was 2. 25 miles short, but we still received our medals. I hope to participate in this event again, in the near future.

I’m local to this race, but this was my first time running it. I used this as a training run for a full marathon. The expo is small, with a few vendors, usually in a local casino. There was a combination of races over the weekend; I completed the 10K and Half, so I received three medals. The course is point-to-point; you will run along the Gulf of Mexico. Expect warm temperatures, even in October. This race is small so there is no crowd support. Also, a bus will pick you up at the host hotel and transport you to the starting line.

There was no expo, just a location to pick up your bib and t-shirt. The race was well organized, but if I remember correctly, the course was short by .25 miles, which was a bummer. I enjoyed the post-race party, which included wine, wine, wine!!! The medal and wine glass were nice.

The expo was decently sized. The temperature was comfortable, but it dropped significantly from the day I arrived. The course consisted of steep inclines that I was not prepared for. 🙂 The medal was nice. This race also had a bike event, which worked well. My husband did the 25-mile bike ride, and I completed the half marathon.

I’ve participated in the race since its beginning. I’ve watched it grow in numbers, and it is one of my favorites because it supports veterans. The expo offers a few vendors but nothing major. The course is okay. There is not much to see along the route, but I love that the finish is at the USS Alabama. I recommend it! The medals are always nice, especially the series to represent each branch of service.
