This race had the best organization of the 4 marathons I have done in the last 2.5 years. There was adequate volunteer staffing. The aid stations were great and well placed. The course was nicely laid out. This is the first race that had adequate toilets everywhere, including the start line! The lines were so minimal at the start line toilets, and I couldn’t have been more thankful for that! I only have two small complaints. The finisher food was absolutely terrible. All that was offered was a cold rice noodle bowl. There was no fruit or sugary goods or any other options. There was no Powerade or electrolyte-type drink available at the finish. There was water and a milk based protein shake. That was it. Personally, I like bananas and sugar at the finish line. That’s what my body needs instantly after running 26.2 miles. Thankfully, I had my husband meet me with these snacks in case they weren’t available. The finisher food area was also quite far from the finish line. I do not think this placement was ideal, as these food items are sometimes needed immediately to prevent lightheadedness and the feeling of passing out. The finishers also had to go down two flights of stairs to get to the family area/food area….do you know how hard it is to go down stairs with cramped legs after running 26.2 miles???? It’s very difficult. They did have medical aid along the stairs just in case but it was still not a great placement, in my opinion. Overall, it was a great race and I really appreciated how organized it was. I just personally did not like the lack of food options or drink options at the finisher area. I think they can do better. Keep the traditional fruit and dessert type snacks for people to eat.

This is a nice course if you get lucky to have good weather…it can be a gamble for the Tri-Cities in late October. I did not think the race was well organized. There were no port-potties at the start. They expected us to all funnel through a two stall bathroom for men and women at the local hotel. The course did not have volunteers at all the turns so it was confusing on which way to go. I ran most of the route by myself so I had to just hope I was choosing the right route. I never got lost but I definitely didn’t like how poorly marked the intersections were. There was a cone and maybe an arrow, if you got lucky. The bathrooms along the course were not easily seen or well placed. They relied on trail bathrooms which is fine but some were set off so far from the running path that they were very difficult to see. I never had to use them but I was constantly watching for them just in case. The finish line was a dud. There was no “party” or “celebration”. There were no paramedics or EMTs on staff in case of an emergency at the finish. The finisher food was a joke. It was some bagged snack food like fruit snacks and chips and very minimal fruit. The medals were really cheap and ugly. The shirt was also ugly and poorly designed. I ran this marathon because it’s the only one that fit into my schedule and location needs. However, I would not run it again and I would not suggest it unless you want a really really low-key basic race. It hardly felt like a race besides the marked course. Much of the course is along the river which is very pretty…but again, the weather is such a gamble for the area. I got lucky and had nice weather but I know it’s not always that way.
