This is one of my favorite races every year. You get to start at the Thomas Wolfe House (a local historic landmark) and run through the cemetery where Thomas Wolfe is buried. The course starts downtown and downhill, runs through the greenway, and up through the beautiful Montford neighborhood. There are some hills, but it is not too bad. If you run it right, it can be a fast course.

What makes this race fun are the sprint prizes. The first man and woman to the 1, 3, and 5 mile marks win a $50 gift card! Good motivation to train hard and run fast. If you are lucky, you can catch Asheville during peak “leaf season” too.

This race is usually on the smaller size (~120ish runners), but it is very well managed. Packet pickup, course markings, and post-race food are all great.

This the best (IMHO) road race in Asheville. The course is a lot of “fun”, with roughly 5 miles up a decent incline, and then 5 miles back down. It is almost two races in one, and requires some strategy. The race is ~90% on the roads, with some packed gravel. The scenery is beautiful, and you can see the governor’s Western mansion near the top of the mountain. You might also see a bear or two in the woods.

The post-race food is the best at any running event I have been to, and there is also lots of beer.

If you were to run one race in Asheville, I would recommend this one.

The 4-person relay aspect is really fun and I wish there was another race or series like this. I would do it again.

The post-race food and swag was good, and you get a beer from the brewery near the start line.

This is a fun race and a fun distance. There are not many 15k races, which is part of the appeal here. The course can be challenging, as there are long stretches of uphill, but the scenery is fantastic. You get to run right up and around the house, making for a great photo op. You also get to run through the gardens and down by the river.

The course was mostly well marked, but some parts can be confusing. I think this could be improved. The prizes were ok, but nothing special. This is a charity run, so I would prefer the money go there anyway.

This race is pricey, but a very cool course if you want to explore the Biltmore Estate.
