This race deserves to be on every runner’s bucket-list and will indeed be on every runner’s “best race” list. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or a casual jogger looking for an unforgettable experience, the Biltmore-Kiwanis Classic offers something truly special that combines world-class scenery, rich history, and competitive racing.
A Historic Setting Like No Other
Nestled in the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, the Biltmore Estate provides a backdrop that few races anywhere in the world can match. Built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895, this architectural masterpiece holds the distinction of being the largest privately owned house in the United States. The 250-room French Renaissance château sits on 8,000 acres of meticulously maintained grounds designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, creator of New York’s Central Park.
As you run through the estate, you’ll experience the same breathtaking views and stunning landscapes that have captivated visitors for over a century. The course winds through rolling hills, past pristine forests, and alongside the French Broad River, offering runners a truly unique journey through American history and natural beauty.
A Legacy of Community and Competition
The Biltmore-Kiwanis Classic 15k and 5k races have been a cornerstone of the Asheville running community since 1997. For over two decades, this event has brought together runners of all abilities—from elite athletes chasing personal records to first-timers achieving milestone goals—all united in their support of a worthy cause.
As the biggest fundraiser for Asheville’s Kiwanis Club, every registration fee and every stride contributes directly to improving the lives of children and families in our community. The Kiwanis Club’s mission to serve children and strengthen communities comes alive through this race, making your participation about more than just personal achievement—it’s about making a lasting difference.

Nice scenery within the private Vanderbilt estate. If you need spectators along the course to keep motivated this is not the race for you. Kudos to the volunteers that get up early to aid the runners at the water stops. I was lucky enough to win my age group and receive a little Biltmore glass that all the writing disappeared on after its first washing.

Best scenery of any other run I’ve done, hands down. Technically challenging (hills – 550FT elevation gain and humidity – 94%), but well worth the effort. Lots to do in Asheville before/after the run. Event coordinators do an excellent (well organized) job. And running up to the Biltmore House and gardens is a real treat.

Easy in-n-out logistically, No traffic during the race, and lush vibrantly green landscapre. Very gentle rolling hills. The running surface is in perfect condition, both deer and wild birds parted for our group of runners, it was mother nature gracefully in movement as we moved along the course in their neighborhood.

This is a fun race and a fun distance. There are not many 15k races, which is part of the appeal here. The course can be challenging, as there are long stretches of uphill, but the scenery is fantastic. You get to run right up and around the house, making for a great photo op. You also get to run through the gardens and down by the river.
The course was mostly well marked, but some parts can be confusing. I think this could be improved. The prizes were ok, but nothing special. This is a charity run, so I would prefer the money go there anyway.
This race is pricey, but a very cool course if you want to explore the Biltmore Estate.

Always great running through Biltmore with the gorgeous scenery. I did the 5K which was 2.5K out and then turn around, so there wasn’t as much scenery as the 15K runners. The only issue with Biltmore is the price spectators have to pay just to enter the estate. It’s about $27-ish which is costly if your whole family comes to watch you run.
