I loved this 6am start for the marathon. It was hot but I carried hydration and was prepared. We catch up with the half and I had to dodge walkers on the path but most were curtious when I announced I was passing. Its an easy drive from St. Louis.

I had to be lifted over the fence to get in the corral. The roads were very crowded, I missed two water stations, maybe they could put them on both sides of the road. The coarse was flat and we had wonderful weather. Parking was easy. Awards were socks but gave them to my husband, one size fits all doesn’t fit someone 4’11.

I was pretty scared when I looked at the course profile. I trained on as many hills as I could and started the race at a pace I would for a marathon. In truth the race was not that bad! The worse was the toll bridge coming back, its a long slow climb plus we had a pretty strong head wind. I would do the race again, going out at a faster pace this time.

Be prepared for many hills the first 11 miles. Then a fun loop around the Drake trake. 2nd half is the half marathon course which is mostly thru parks and running paths. Plenty of water stations with powerade (not great). There were two stations that gave away gels which were Maurten. I did not try them because I brought my own. Parking was free in the garage nearby which was great!

Small town race for a good cause. They really do a good job with communication, aid stations and atmosphere. There is nothing scenic unless you like corn fields! It hard to find a half in the Midwest in August so that is how I first found it. I will be back again next year!

Very well organized, easy to find expo and hotels around the area. Parking was a breeze, close to the start and lots of porta potties. The race course was not that scenic and just a few hills. Post race was OK, bananas, bagels and beer. My husband has celiac so he got a banana.

Overall not a bad course, I knew not to expect a lot of spectators becuase I have done the half many times but the marathon is very quiet and because it was so cold (upper teens , lower 20’s) I just didn’t want to be there. Not enough porta potties, only 8 and we had 4 races going on.

Plenty of parking near the start. I hate the start: all races start together, soon after the start we have a huge hill and the road is narrow. People are walking the hill and its hard to dodge them trying to keep a decent pace. On the half around mile 6.5 there is a huge hill, you go down and then back up and its steep! Once we get to the park its very flat. I like this race because its so close to my home, not many big races in the suburbs of St. Louis.

Lots of aid stations which were needed because it was very warm. I did not care for the 2nd loop we had to do for the marathon. The trail got crowded with dog walkers and kids riding bikes which made my finish difficult, trying to navigate people who did not know or care that a race was going on.

Mostly flat along Katy trail but then you do some climbing up to Busch Wildlife center, which is paved. It can be warm along here, not much shade. Finish at the Research Center. Plenty of parking too!
