A month before the event there were 500 Australian Runners entered. Then COVID-19 Delta got a hold in Sydney, NSW and Victoria. The organisers quarantined in Alice Springs for 14 days then drove the 4 hours to Uluru. Border closures and flight cancelations saw the numbers able to make the event drop to 200. Amongst the problems they faced was the non delivery of 4 sets of Chest numbers with the numbers eventually used arriving the evening before the event Race day saw the toughest conditions in the events history with 28 Celcius and 42 km/hour winds buffeting the runnerd in the latter stages of the event.
Despite all this Travelling Fit put on a magnificent event in the centre of Australia. The run was well organised and the local community around the course manned the regular drink stops and road crossings with a ready smile and co operation. There was a great medal at the finish with a sausage sizzle and plentiful liquids and chocolate muffins. Travelling Fit offer a number of packages allowing the runners to experience the Red Centre and the area around Uluru to the best. The traveling Fit crew treat all their guests and runners like life long friends and bend over backwards to make sure every one has the best possible time.

Those who weren’t able to make the trip were encouraged to run virtual Outback events and sent their race medals and Fee shirt on completion.

The were too many amazing stories of determination and perserverance by runners to list here. A great event.

The race takes you through pristine native eucalyptus forests and pine plantations .the trails range from sealed to gravel roads to single track trails. The majority on fire trails up and down hills that just keep coming. Runners are rewarded with great views and a fast down hill 1.5 km finish if your legs can handle it.
There are well placed drink stations. The race is green so you need to carry your own water container.
You can down load a finishers certificate. The event is a fundraiser for the Womboin Rural Fire Brigade, so no medals. it you can see what the event has funded over the years.
The event is organised by one of Australia’s premier Ultra Runners, Pam Musten.

The race is in the Flinders Chase National Park mostly on undulating relatively straight sealed roads. There is 589 metres of elevation gain. There are great views of the Bush, Southern Ocean and natural rock formations. You will be supported by a really friendly team of local volunteers. Sorry no photos, check out the website. My best marathon time since I broke my neck 23 months ago.

The new course was much better than I expected.. The first half was really picturesque taking in the iconic Canberra areas such as Parliment House, the High Court and National Gallery. then through the Embassy belt to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. After crossing Commonwealth Bridge at kilometre 24 we headed west along Parks way into an extremely strong head wind before a turn round and tracking back to Kings bridge with a tale wind for the final kilometres to the finish on the lawns in front of old parliament house

This is a small community event organised by runners for runners to show off the natural beauty of the area. Proceeds from the event go to support the local Womboin Bush Fire Brigade.Due to the profile of the organisers the event drew entries from Sydney and Melbourne.
The rewards you get from the event are personell. There are no finishers medals. However if you left early or were very unlucky you missed a prize from the lucky draw pool.
The day was hot and the course challenging, but it was really worth the effort.
If you are in Canberra next January and enjoy running trails, do it.

There is also a winter edition in June.

Run along the aboriginal trails used by Explorers Hume and Hovell, on the first overland trek from Sydney to Melbourne. The trail is challenging. Fantastic lower Snowy Mountain scenery. Great camaraderie amongst the runners. Camping available at the finish where the majority of runners stay to welcome the last runner gets home. The organisers can’t do enough for the runners.

The Two Bays Trail Run 28km version runs from Dromarna on Port Philip Bay south to Cape Shank on the tip of Westernport Bay. This id the version I ran. There is a limit of 1000 runners on this run. It starts with a 290metre elevation gain over three kilometres up the side of Arthurs seat then follows the two Bays walking trail to Cape Shank over undulating trails.. The trails start with a wide walking track with steps up Arthur’s seat which descends to a section of roads then onto a gracel road that rises steadily to the 10.3 kilometre mark where Browns road is crossed. The course then becomes single file track that winds its way through Greens Bush . After crossing the Flinders Road the course hits the coast for the final 6 or so kilometres with great vies of Bush Rangers Bayt and Bass Strait. The sting in the tail comes in the last Kilometre with a set of very uneven stairs to climb before rounding a corner into a car park and running up to the finish to be greeted by welcoming crowds.
The course is difficult with uneven steps, tree roots and steep descents to negotiate. However once into Greens bush the track became firm sand and was very comfortable to run on. We were warned of heat and snakes. However the weather was mild after a wet few days and the snakes were not active. I did see a Kangaroo jump across my path 2 metres ahead of me.
As a 64 year old with very poor eyesight I enjoyed conquering the 28 km course and finishing strongly, not being overtaken in the last 6 kilometres with a time of 3 h 27min. The weather was perfect for the run If all goes well I will be back next year Maybe to do the 56 km version…..maybe.
