“Richmond Marathon was incredible! The course was stunning, showcasing the beauty of the city with great crowd support. I loved the downhill finish, which made the last stretch so memorable. Ran just 8 seconds slower than my PR, and I couldn’t have asked for a better race day experience. Highly recommend this race for anyone seeking a well-organized and scenic marathon!”

This was my 3rd time running this race. The communication prior to the race is great, race packet pickup is well organized and the number of aid stations is awesome. They have a great group of volunteers. This was my 64th marathon, so I have seen a bunch– and I would say this is the best organized and easiest race to run. The race leaves and finishes as this park that is across from the Governors Hotel– not the fanciest hotel, but literally it is a 2 minute walk. It just doesn’t get much easier. I left my hotel room at 6:55AM and the race started at 7:00AM. The only down side would be the elevation gain– my watch said it was 1500 feet— although they do not say it is that much… I will for sure run the race again. AND it was my PR by 6 seconds.

This race felt so similar to the NYC Marathon– but the streets were smaller and I often was stuck in a crowd. While I enjoyed running in London and am grateful I did, the crowded course combined with the spectators who were screaming and whistling on both sides of the course the entire time was loud. Since the streets were more narrow, it was just so loud.

Also, I ran this race with a friend and despite the fact we registered at the same time we were put in different start sections… we had to run the first three miles apart and meet up. We tried to get them to rearrange us but the simply refused.

So in summary and advice to officials as someone who has run 60+ marathons– spread people out more, allow people to change corrals.

All good though, still glad I did it.

This was my 9th time running the race. Over the years the race has changed and become much less complex. Long ago we started at Bolles and ended at the Mayo Clinic– at one point we ran on the beach– we used to run around in both Jax Beach and PV Beach… now it is just two loops in Jax Beach. Not bad, I do not miss the bridge to get to the Mayo Clinic– and it was good. The course allows you to run faster… and no busses back to the start is awesome… it is just interesting to have run this race so many times and to experience all of the changes.

This was my 9th time running the Disney marathon. It is always so much fun. I ran it slower this time with my daughter, which was by far the best part.

One of the observations I have made over the years of running this race is that it’s becoming less and less runner centric. Because the race sells out every year, it feels like Disney is working to make things more convenient for them, than the runners. For example, I had to walk a mile before the race started and a mile after the race ended for parking. Not ideal when you’re running a marathon, but the Disney marathon is a favorite and I will do it again next year , and probably every year for the rest of my life

The race was super fun and was well organized, They had lots of water stops and the course was really well done. Despite the fact that there could have been more hills, they found a pretty flat course. I will for sure do it again, and not to mention it was my fastest race and I have run 58 marathons before this one.

I signed up for the Big Sur because a friend invited me to run with them, and then they did not run it. I had no idea of all of the beauty and charm that I was in for. The race was awesome, the hills were intense, the heat was a factor, and at times I was very cold. All that said, it was for sure one of the top 10 marathons I have done. The piano player out on the course was pretty crazy!

The New York City Marathon is a bucket list race. Sure there are things about it that are inconvenient– like having being transported to the start at 4AM for a 9AM or later start, but the race is so fun and there are so many people out on the course encouraging you. This particular year it was super hot and humid, so my time was slow– but the race typically has great weather.

This was my second Ironman– the walk to the start was over a mile, the swim was nice and had nice end to the swim/ transition to the bike. The bike ride was pure Hell. The out and back on a unshaded interstate and having to do it twice was the hardest bike ride in my life. I was utterly exhausted for the run and ha day worse marathon of my life. Having said that, I did not die, but would never do this race again.

I was trying to run 50 marathons by the time I turned 50 and I needed to do a race in April– that was not too far away from my house… this was the best option. The race was VERY small– less than 100 people and yet the race production team worked very hard to make it great. I have never run a race where I was alone so much, but it was fun. There were very few water stops, but there were enough. I won my age division (simply because there were not many people in my age group) and I won a metal… it was homemade… but very nice… I am not sure if I would run this race again, but I do not regret running it. The historical nature of it was very cool– as you ended at the spot where the Civil war ended– where Jefferson Davis was captured.

The Tomoka Marathon was a special race. The course runs through a variety of natural scenes including a beautiful tree lined stretch that despite the somewhat later date in the year for a marathon in FL– make the temperature situation bearable. The Disney Marathon continues to be my favorite marathon. I have run it 10 times or more and I have continued to love to run it. It really is an awesome race. I have also learned that you don’t need to get there as early as they say you do. I typically get there 1 hour before the race starts and then I walk to the start. There are so many rolling starts that sometimes I get into a different corral, but it is fine. If you love Disney, this is the race you need to do before you die!

I trained for my 1st Ironman during the pandemic… this was the 1st Ironman in the US to happen as the pandemic was beginning to end. It was a great race and the race officials did a great job. I loved the run and the swim– the bike had some odd, hard turns and I saw some people fall. I was glad I had driven the course the day before. I ran this race just prior to the world shutting down. I was supposed to run the Barcelona Marathon, but it got cancelled so I flew the other direction to Hawaii, where the “Pandemic” had not happened yet. It was a great race that was beautiful. I usually do every race I run twice, but I see no need to do this race again. They had added the marathon distance the year I ran it and it seemed like the marathon concept was an after thought. There was confusion on the course itself as those of us running the marathon vs an ultra distance had to run a slightly different beginning. They messed up so I got to the finish line and I had only run 25.9 miles. The other very discouraging thing about the race was that when I crossed the finish line there was literally no one there to say “great job.” I had to hunt someone down to get a metal. They were simply more focused on the Ultra runners. Once I got my metal I then kept running to get to 26.2. The actual location was pretty and a nice historic park, and I am still glad I ran it— I am sure the race organizers did better the next year.

Running through one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife conservancies was a joy. Everything about the race was difficult and spectacular. I raised money for TUSK to be able to run in the race. The course was two 1/2 marathons– so a double loop. I ran slow due to the heat, I got lapped by an African man. Humbling…

It was incredible as they literals had to use helicopters to keep the dangerous animals away to keep runners safe and there was park rangers out on the race course with guns to protect the runners.

The race packet contained hand-made things, that years later I am still using. The accommodations available where over the top (and expensive). What a joy!

I ran this race simply because I wanted to get another Marathon under my built. This was my 32nd Marathon. The things that stand out for me that the race staff were very accommodating for me as I arrived at the end of the day to get my packet and the sherpas. During the race there were a couple of steep hills and the race provided sherpas in the form of young teenagers who ran along side of you and helped you run up the hill by encouraging you. It is the only race I have ever done where this was the case and it was cool.

This is one of the Spring Marathons in FL where the snow birds are down and in Florida enjoying the ocean… while the weather can still be nice, it can also be like summer. This year, it was super warm… can’t remember exactly, but I just remember suffering through the heat in this race. If I had it to do over I would have just not run as my time was super long due to the heat and the mostly shadeless route. If it had 50 degrees that day it would have been a fun race.

I have run this race a bunch of times— and it is a good race… weather is usually cool, it is always a flat course, parking is easy, and from the perspective of my wife– it is not disruptive to life as it is a local race. The timing of the race is also good as it is far enough away from the NYC Marathon and the Disney Marathon.

The NYC Marathon is in a class of it’s own. How can there be that many people on the side of the road for the entire race? We all know so many people live in NYC, but it is just so fun to get to run throughout NYC and all of the Burroughs. I have run this race several times and each time I raise money for The Bowery Mission– which serves homeless people in NYC.

Being a Floridian, I was anxious about the hills in the race. They were fine. The race itself was great. There was a reasonably priced hotel across from the start/ finish area, and they had race morning packet pickup– which allowed me to fly in late the night before. The best part of the race was I got to meet Jeff Galloway– he was there as a guest of the marathon.

I have run the Donna Marathon at least a half a dozen times and the race organizers keep getting better at the course. There use to be a beach run and bridge at the end, but those challenges are gone! My favorite part of the run is that at some point you run by Beaches Chapel and they have volunteers out there serving Communion.

I love running the Disney Marathon. It is the race that I have run the most and it is the race that I have run my fastest pace. Running through the parks is magical. The only hard part is getting up super early to start and dealing with the weather. This particular year it was super cold– which is why I ran so fast, but sometimes it can be hot…

The New York City Marathon is as awesome of a race as you would expect. The journey to the start is long, but unavoidable due to the fact the race starts so far away from Central Park, but the race itself is full of encouraging fans and so much energy. If you get to run in the NYC marathon you should!

I registered for this race sort of last minute because I was going to be flying into Seattle the night before needing to be in Portland… this was in the middle. It was easy to check-in on race morning and there were multiple hotels near the start/ finish. The scenery was pretty and the goodie bag was great. It was a super fun race that I would do again and again!

The Donna Marathon is close to home as I live in North Florida. It is not a destination marathon, but if you live near North Florida, and want to run a race that is good– you should run this one. Over the years they have made the route better. I have run this race about 6 times and I would say it gets better every year.

The first half of the marathon was awesome– it was super fun to run down the strip and get to run with all of the lights and casinos… they second half was awful. We basically ran around in industrial parks and in circles in a large empty parking lot at Circus Circus. It is no wonder that they have since cancelled the full marathon and turned this race into just being a half.

The race was carried out extremely well and there were good aid stations. The course itself was as exciting as a race in the desert could be. A friend texted during the race and said– do you see any camels? Her text was funny to me as at the time I was running by the Dubai Zoo… otherwise we just pretty much ran through the streets of Dubai. So fun to do such an exotic race and it was as cool as it could be, but still hot. It felt like running a race in FL with less humidity.

The Donna is such a fun race and mostly flat, but at the end of the race back in 2014 you ended with a bridge that is completely exposed to the sun and very hard to do. It was discouraging to see my time get so much worse due to my inability to keep up the pace at the end. Fortunately, they have rewritten the course and in the early 2020’s this was no longer the case.

The race conditions of this November marathon were less than ideal. The races started a little late and very hot. I was doing fine, but certainly slower than I expected due to the heat. By the time I got to miles 20– multiple people had passed out and one person had died. They ended up calling the race and shortening the distance–so I only ran 20 miles of the race. Not a fun day. The race team is not responsible for the weather, but they could have started the race early and they also could have provided more water/ gatorade along the way.
