It was a rough day – super cold with an added wind chill and torrential rain so I think my review may be harsh. I am doing it again this year and hope for a cold dry day. I felt so low at the end as there was nobody there to cheer me in. I think Christchurch is big enough to avoid full marathon runners having to repeat part of the course as this is not fun at all. All New Zealand marathons are very expensive and very tight when it comes to medal quality and ‘goodie’ bags. I hope to be more impressed this year. The course is definitely a fast one if there’s no wind or torrential rain – completely flat.

I would recommend this to anyone who can get distracted by beautiful scenery and it is simply stunning. They took the big hill out – a shame really but it was in a nasty place – towards the end. Expensive to enter and for accommodation but I guess that’s New Zealand. It can get a bit windy around the lake. Although it is mostly off road it is hard packed trail and trail shoes are not needed. The medal was pretty nice and the start was well organised.
