Another great Evergreen race with free professional photos, a well marked route, real soap and water outside the starting restrooms, small race bib with timing chip, supportive staff and volunteers, great scenery. I was having trouble really running the course because of all the challenging rocks and roots, and just not being strong; but was still able to make the cutoff.

Incredibly beautiful course, hot too. It starts out at about a mile of elevation; so be sure to do some runs or hikes above sea level and try to get in some heat adaptations too. Should have brought trekking poles for the first half of the half, no falls; but I slowed to keep from joining the injured, then they can be stored for the second half of the half. The volunteers and crew are so supportive, it doesn’t matter that I come if I come in last, they will be there and cheer and make me feel like a star.
I wish I had the strength to go the 50 miles route just for the experience and views; but the half is pretty special too. It’s hard! But so worth it

Train on hills and lots of them! Don’t neglect your strength training and feel good about finishing no matter what your time. The course was clearly marked and needed it because no sane person would try to run straight up a mountain, just when you think this must be wrong, there’s a confidence streamer and all the turns were clear. The aid stations were well stocked and the volunteers helpful.

As always Evergreen Trails races are well marked and supported.

Felt much harder than last year’s temporary course. Logging at the top has opened up some beautiful views while the rest of the race is in beautiful temperate forest with an interesting section on the north side without any understory growth. It must be a little rain shadow from the peaks. Trails are mostly single track in good condition. Be ready to go up without any frivolous switchbacks. Race production great, so kind to slow pokes like me.

We lucked out with the weather. The trails had dried up and there was just a little ice as we started. My race was a single ten mile loop through beautiful moss covered forest, up steep trails and with rocks and roots that require attention and either light feet or a slower pace. I chose the slower pace to avoid falling and loved exchanging accolades with the speedy runners who were lapping me as they flew by on their second rounds. With other runners doing two or three laps I felt comfortable at my pace being able to hike or run without any pressure to make cutoff times.
Loved the hot soup at the finish. Glad I had a big mug of coffee from home as there was none at the start.

Heat wave; but shady with ice for hydration vest at the aid stations. Being new this year to trail running the trekking poles came in handy in the steep ups and downs. I wish more people would realize that you don’t need to be fast to have a great run and get out there while you can. They will support you no matter your pace.
