I personally thought the course is more challenging than they let on. It’s very hilly, and if you aren’t used to trails, it’s a little intimidating. That being said, it’s probably a good introduction to trails. I hardly ever train on hills so that could just be my own mistake. This was the race I got hurt during, and therefore I couldn’t race my first Boston marathon, so I could also be a little bitter.

It was PERFECT! I Boston Qualified! Weather was perfect! It’s relatively flat and there were MORE than enough air stations with water. They also had GU gel on course. There was a lot of energy by spectators and the volunteers were amazing. The scenery is beautiful too. There were also a lot of bathrooms available. And there are so many other runners! Which I really liked! It wasn’t too congested. I really enjoyed the whole thing.

It’s very flat and fast. There are some very small rolling hills in the beginning (VERY small). There are plenty of water stations. The course is well mapped. The medal was cute. The awards were cool. My ONE critique is that there aren’t very many spectators so you’re kind of alone out in the country roads. That can be bad or good. It’s kind of a personal preference.

I said I was a repeat runner but last year I only did the 5k. This year I did the full marathon. It was my first full and this course made it a great experience. There are more than enough water/aid stations. The course is very flat, except the one overpass that you go over twice. The first time, it’s really not bad, but when you go over it at mile 24, it hurts haha. They have a lot of spectator viewing spots and a lot of people actually go spectate! Which is great! I think the scenery is very pretty, but I like farm land lol. The course was very clearly marked. I really have no complains. It was an amazing experience and I just think they put on an amazing race.

This race is SO much fun. Maybe just because it’s a Disney race in general? I had never done a Disney race before and they do NOT disappoint. You start off running through both parks and it’s beautiful. And then you run through Anaheim and Angels Stadium, which is just so cool. There are tons of people cheering. They have high school bands out and dance teams and it’s just a really fun experience. I loved it. There was a hill at the end that felt like it went on forever, but it was manageable. I highly recommend this race.

Don’t kid yourself. It’s going to be hot out there. Even if “cooler” years, it’s hot. I had a lot of fun thouch. It was challenging and I think that’s why I liked it. There were enough water stations but I had to drink like 2 cups at each station to keep hydrated. The course was also a little confusing because there were so many turns. I liked it though and I would do it again. (Just adding that the little weather thing says the high for 2017 was 89 degrees? That’s crap. It was close to 100 degrees at the start. The announcer even said so, I remember because it made me more nervous)

I think this is a perfect race for beginners! It’s flat, and everyone is very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my experience here. It was my first race so I know it’s hard for me to really know, but I had so much fun and now I can’t wait to participate in more races! Maybe even longer distances! Thanks Modesto Marathon!
