Runners Celebrate Memorial Day Where Freedom Was Won!
“There is something very special in running through the battlefield that won our country, especially on Memorial Day.” Those were the words of previous runners of the Yorktown Freedom Run 8K race and 5K walk/fun along the roads of the Yorktown battlefield.
Organized and hosted by the Yorktown Rotary Club, and sponsored every year by many of the business organizations in Yorktown, this will be the 29th anniversary of the race. The race commemorates Memorial Day and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. The Freedom Run is hosted by the Yorktown Rotary Club, and all proceeds go to the Yorktown Rotary Foundation to provide scholarships for local high school students and give support to a wide range of youth and community services as shown on the Community Service page of our website.
As the venue and dates have changed over the past quarter century the popularity of this race, with runners of all levels, has been constant. Again this year, with the support of the National Park Service and the Peninsula Track Club, the race will be run on the Colonial National Historical Park tour roads and offering cash awards for the 8K run.

This was a very fun event to do on Memorial Day, to honor he Fallen and Freedom. You run though the Yorktown Battlefield area and it was a very fun experience. I absolutely love the shirt that they gave out for SWAG, and the medal you got for finishing top 3 overall, Masters, and Age Division by 5 Years was nice. It was also an Age Graded team event so its always cool when they put those on. They had snacks and giveaways and had a nice tribute speech at the end of the race. Very memorable and overall a great time.
