Race was 2 loops consisting of first and last miles being paved through town, a mix of gravel road, bike path, and single track all dirt. PLUS 2 half mile runs down the beach and through water up to your calves for part of it, depending on tide. 1700 of elevation gain, and one hill you do twice that is like hiking up a rocky mountain (100m). Shade for about a third of the race with the sun low in the horizon. 2 dead snakes in the trail, several places of something dead/rotting,
Water stops were adequate, but often plastic cups were filled 1/4 full, so i had 3…. warm, sunny, and long race. No fuel some powerade stops as well. Volunteers were great. Burger King was the food post race??
Packet pickup was until 6PM on Friday, and 4:45AM-6AM race day. I never got any communication from the race directors, and subsequently went on what the website said…. apparently they moved the race up 15 minutes, and I arrived as they were counting down from nueve, ocho, ….
EVERYTHING IS IN SPANISH. Plan accordingly. Shirt was decent, (albeit black) medal nice and they give you a headband and race belt…nice.
I stayed at Annie’s oceanfront and 4 minute walk to the start, nice restaurant/bar as well. Other places stay and eat nearby as well. Overall a hard and unique race, i recommend! Helped with parking as like most things PR, just wing-it and hope for the best. This race was part of an overall weekend if Tri events and other races, so lots going on in this little part of PR. Only about 75 people running the half.
