The Virginia Trail Running Festival by Run Bum Races is a weekend of running, camping, local food / drinks, friendships and hopefully some personal bests! It happens at peak fall colors along the New River. This race takes place on the New River Trail, a 57 mile rails to trails path. Most of the trail is right along side the MASSIVE New River. Beautiful orange and yellow leaves at peak fall colors light up the river above its rapids and waterfalls. You will cross over many old train trestles that are several hundreds of feet in length crossing the New River several times. Foster Falls, home of beautiful rapids, beckons runners with its hum of rushing water. The trail itself is dirt / crushed gravel. The elevation change is minimal. Most of it is completely flat or a 1% grade. This is an extremely runnable maybe too runnable course. If you are looking for a PR or your first 100 or 50 miler then this is it! Aid stations pretty much every 5-8 miles. There is lots of crew access.
Run Bum Races has been race directing for 13 years now. We have a trusted name to deliver on a fun, scenic and safe race.

This seemed to be a perfect event to pick up my first 50 miler. It was on the New River Trail in Virginia, a rails to trails path. It was a nice, smooth dirt road with 577 ft of total ascent on my watch.
Run Bum races put it on, I gave them 5 stars for production, they put on a well staged event. Great location for the start/finish. Well spaced and stocked aid stations, I was back of the pack and they still had plenty of everything with very pleasant volunteers. And I thought the trail scenery was impressive. And all this was with a sold out event, a large group of people to take care of.
