I ran the Vintage Half Marathon…..it felt a tad humid 😅 I saw runners from this event last year when we first moved into our present house. This year, I decided to join the fun.
I was still nursing my left calf that I hurt at the Little Rock Marathon early last month. The calf had flared up again during the Blue Bell Half Marathon late last month but the last couple weeks it had felt pretty good. I was hoping it was better and healed enough for this race.
Well, it was better – up to almost the 10 mile mark then it flared up again. My pace went from high 7 minute miles/low 8 minute miles to low 10 minute miles. But I finished.
Was hoping to break 1:50 but those slow last three miles had other ideas. Finished 1:52:58 (50 seconds faster than the prior month’s Blue Bell half-marathon…..Blue Bell was definitely more hilly, but Vintage was definitely more warm and humid). I managed to place second in my age group (first place killed my time). For perspective, Sebastian Sawe was only about six and a half minutes slower in his London Marathon win (the full marathon).
Fun race……now putting the second ice pack on my calf.

This half marathon was my first, and it came with some tough circumstances. I ran the race while dealing with a serious knee injury that required surgery later that same week—my procedure was scheduled for Thursday, just a few days after race day on Sunday. The weather was extremely humid, which made the run even more challenging. I also made the mistake of carrying a 32 oz water vest, something I had never trained with before. Despite all these difficulties, it was still a great experience, and I’m proud that I pushed through and finished.

Emcee was awesome.
Lots of parking and places to warm up.
Plenty of bathrooms.
Course was well-marked but uneventful. Runners were right next to traffic but lots of police officers and volunteers to keep us safe.
Good food options at the end of the run.
Nice medal and comfortable t-shirt
