This is a small race. It was 17 degrees when the run started. Don’t sign up for this race unless you are ready for the cold weather. I think maybe 20 people ran this race and that was for the 5k, 10k, and HM. There was a park bathroom next to the start line, and you do 6 loops for the HM, so you pass that bathroom 6 times. The course is on a greenway, out and back. And you park next to the start line as well. I passed my car 6 times, which was great because I could un-layer and toss things in my car. The start / finish line was also like an aid station which had gummies and granola bars and water. I was driving around Iowa for a week waiting for this race, and although it was a tiny race, I was happy that it was low key. I stayed at a hotel about two miles from the race. Getting there in the morning was easy. Nothing about this race to dislike, but I’m guessing that everyone except me was local. Bettendorf is not a destination town. If you are local, go have fun. If you are not living in Bettendorf, it probably isn’t worth it to travel far for this race unless they up the production. But… I’m not sure the RDs want to up the production, and that’s okay. It seemed to be just something they were doing for the local runners because they like to support that community. Kudos for that, honestly! I’m glad to see small runs like that. We have these in Chattanooga, where I live and I join them when I can. Worth it.
