The Triple Lakes Trail Race is a favorite of all North Carolina trail runners. We have seen blazing fast times, but don’t be fooled the course isn’t a walk in the park. The race is also perfect for the beginner trail runner because of the gorgeous scenery. The backdrop for the race is Bur Mil which is a great place for the family to come spend the day in the park while you are off running in the woods. Bur Mil has a 3-par golf course, driving range, great playground and nature center.
The event has 3 races including half marathon, marathon and 40 mile. The Marathon and 40 also feature a relay division so grab a couple of buddies on take on this race as a relay.
Post race participants enjoy a feast, beer and celebration. The race medals and race shirts are sure to be among the best you’ve seen. Overall and age group awards are given to the top finishers in all events. And, since 2020’s race is on Halloween, we will give an award to the best costume, runner or spectator! We will judge costumes before the race at 7:40 right before the race instructions. Boo!
You must be registered 2 weeks before race day to ensure a race shirt is available for you.
There will be a reward for running two out of three of our trail races in 2020 (Owl’s Roost Rumble & Run at the Rock are the other two) SWAG is TBD, we’ll keep you posted!

This is always a well-directed, well-organized and enjoyable race. I’d done the half marathon a few times and upped it to the 40K this year. Cut off times are generous and Libby and Rich (race directors) take extremely good care of their runners. Pre-race info is thorough. Trail is quite scenic – most of it is easy to moderate with a couple of short but challenging sections.
