Looking for a flat, fast marathon? The Trailbreaker is now offering a second course option! You can run our alternate certified, Boston qualifying course on a paved trail that is flat and fast. Want a little more challenge? Then run the original certified Trailbreaker course that goes to the tower at Lapham Peak on the rugged, single track, Ice Age Trail! You decide which course you want to tackle!
The Trailbreaker is Waukesha’s home grown running event and has been held annually since 1993. This Waukesha tradition initially consisted of a Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 5K Run/Walk. All three of these events are certified by the USATF and may provide qualifying credentials for other races. We are excited to once again offer a 10K event at the Trailbreaker. The Trailbreaker originally was the brainchild of three running colleagues (amigos). Since 2009, the Park Foundation of Waukesha, Inc. (PFW Inc.), has organized and hosted this annual event as a fundraiser for the enhancement of city parks, trails, recreation programs and the urban forest.
Over $200,000 has been generated and re-invested with the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department to “make Waukesha a better place to live, work and play”. The PFW Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization that utilizes funds raised to promote “Community Quality of Life”. All staff are unpaid volunteers. Please consider making a donation!
This event provides distances for all runners! Come join the fun and support our local parks and community!
The Lapham Peak Marathon course covers approximately 6 miles of city streets and sidewalks, 15 miles of paved trails (including the Fox River Trail & Glacial Drumlin Trail) and 5 miles of the Ice Age Trail. Miles 11 – 15 are extremely rugged. Except for the Ice Age Trail, the trail is subject to only gentle grades. Marathon turn-around is the top of the 40′ Lapham Peak Tower, the highest point in Waukesha County, with spectacular views of the surrounding lake country.
The Glacial Drumlin Trail Marathon course covers approximately 6 miles of city streets and sidewalks, 20 miles of paved trails (including the Fox River Trail & Glacial Drumlin Trail) and this course is super flat making it perfect for a PR!
Please note, we will not be able to exchange shirt sizes and shirts will not be sold. Shirts are unisex and tend to run large.

This race is one I choose because of difficulty and location. I live in Wisconsin and wanted a race that would be within reasonable driving distance. I choose the half marathon because I am in training for a full marathon, but there are all race distances available. The first three miles is on the streets and sidewalks of downtown Waukesha, then it goes out and back on the trail.
Great Race

This was the 25th running of the Trailbreaker, a small set of races in Waukesha, WI. There are full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K options, something for everyone. 🙂 This is the major fundraiser for the Waukesha Parks Foundation. I ran the half marathon. The course for the half marathon was partly on city streets (about 3 miles), cobblestone paths around a river, and the majority was on a paved bike trail. Those that ran the full marathon also ran on the Ice Age Trail (single track dirt trail) through the Lapham Peak State Park, and up a tower.
The race is well-organized with plenty of water stops. The only hiccup was that a train crossed the path of some of the fastest half marathoners, causing about a 40 second wait. Trains are rare across that part of the bike trail. Otherwise traffic was stopped at all intersections. The half marathon course was an out and back course, with a slightly modified route (shorter than the start) to the finish, it is about 7 miles to the turnaround. While the bike trail is about 3 wide there were no problems with passing. There are no hills on the course.
Race swag for those that signed up ahead of time was a long sleeve tech tee. Those that signed up late received a coffee mug, which actually looked quite nice. It would have been nice to have a choice between the mug and tee for those that signed up in advance. All finishers received a medal for all race distances this year. Top 3 AG winners also received a nice printed certificate. There were also Master’s awards.
Bagels, fruit, and water were provided at the end of the race, as well as beer. Weather at this time can be volatile in WI, but it was a beautiful day for running this year. Overall, this is a very nice race to start off the racing season.
