I’m torn here. Last year it was 6.8-ish. We ran it with a storm pushing in that has us dodging limbs, both falling from trees and blowing across the road. This year was 3 miles, still no medal, but now also no t-shirt. It was a really nice t-shirt last year and the graphics on the shirt would have made a great medal. I was fortunate enough to not only have ccruiz03 there to keep me company (and entertained) but met another runner on the course that was new on his running journey. It was a true honor and a privilege to run with him, and honestly that beat any medal.
The course cuts through some of the familiar parts of downtown KC that you’ll recognize if you’ve done the Garmin KC or the Hospital Hill races. It’s nice to have the chance to do them at night. There are no aid stations, only a few course marshals and it’s pretty much open traffic the whole way, but there are a fair amount of bike lanes to take advantage of since there’s only about 2 bikers a month that use them.
It’s a good race. It’s a good experience. It’s a good opportunity to meet good people you otherwise might not. What it’s not is a traditional race. If you need signage and a water point and bling, this isn’t your race, and that’s okay, but if you already do a lot of races, give this one a shot (the chicken at the place upstairs at the after party is insanely good), especially since it’s at night and isn’t going to conflict with another race anyway.

Great evening run with highlights from Hospital Hill and KC Half, as well as a few others. Great Tshirt, no chip timing and no medal. I know this is a local club running it but honestly the event was so spectacularly put together that I wished there’d been a medal, even if I had to pay more for it. The weather was punishing with high gusts and horrible air quality. When the rain drops finally came it was mud falling from the sky. The course ran fast though, all things considered and it was a great mix of hills to keep things fresh. Raffle at the end and free beverages were included with the cost of admission. Absolutely a great course.
