I have run The Duel half marathon on trails for two years now. This is a small race which makes it more fun on trails because you don’t have to worry about passing people or getting passed too often. There are a few tougher hills here and there but there are also some more gentle areas as well. You never know what the weather may do so you have to be prepared.

Weather is unpredictable in January in Northern Texas. The race started out cool, rain started to spit about half mile in. Rain continued through entire race (I was soaked, but stoked!) and snow began to fall shortly after crossing the finish line. The aid stations weren’t spaced well, but the refreshments after helped warm everyone up. Not a ton of crowd participation probably due to weather. Will be an annual race for me.
