A couple of things: 1) this is not a ‘trail race’ — though there are dirt roads, anyone signing up for this thinking it’s a trail run, it’s not.
    2) Yes, it is hilly. Don’t be surprised by that. 😉
    3) I noticed a couple of reviews talking about shuttles/busses. There are NO shuttles at this race. It starts/ends in same spot. And from what I understand, it was at some location last year so perhaps confusing with another Temecula race?

Overall, race was nicely done. Post-race festivities were top notch! Plenty of tasting tickets and I *loved* the wine glass instead of (yet another) shirt.

Course was really nice … scenic and challenging but a nice downhill coming back into town. My only complaint is, I think it’s downright cruel to make runners run past the finish line and loop around the park to back to it. Mean, just mean!

Also, it would be nice if the medal for the half was bigger/better than the 5k. The only difference was the ribbon color. But, it was nice to get a non-traditional medal — sparkly bottle opener.

Nice job, Temecula Half. I will recommend to friends!

This year the weather for this run was ideal. The morning started off cool without the need for any sweatshirts and it got better from there. The sun was blocked by clouds and it never warmed up as a nice breeze set in toward the end. A small group of runners made the pre-run routine simple: pick up bib, warm up and go, no long waits for anything. The course is one of the best I’ve run. I didn’t see a single (active) car until about mile 10 so there was plenty of room to spread out over the country roads. The first section is flat and the houses quickly gave way to farms and then open space with chaparral and oak trees around mile 3. The fist real hill was fairly long but not too steep. After that the course slowly looped back to the flat area again with a few small hills to keep it interesting. Some sections were shaded with large Oak trees and the breeze never became a speed scrubbing headwind. At the post run party there were various beverages available for free that included wine, champagne, sangria and some good IPA beer from Wiens brewery and a pretty funny DJ. The PA system was never too loud and the music was decent. Thoughtfully, the organizers didn’t give out the cheap synthetic T-shirts that many people don’t bother to pick but instead offered nice cotton shirts as an option to purchase. I will be back next year for this one, definitely worth the drive from San Diego.

This run had so much potential! It is through the beautiful Temecula and has a beautiful finishers medal and it will always have special place in my heart because it was my “first” 1/2 marathon. It just needed so much more now that I seen other marathons / 1/2 marathons. There was promises of vendors and as we finished our shortened 12.45 1/2 marathon there was only one wine vendor and one beer vendor (which the beer was delicious! Wein’s Brewery!) the view for the 5 k was great and then then the 1/2 turned into houses and dirt. And boy, oh boy was that a difficult hills. Rolling, and long, steep and rocky and some points. A great challenge. I would improve the race by getting the buses out on time! There was too much confusion with the buses and where we had to park and have more wine vendors! It’s wine county!!!

I ran this race with a not-so-bad time for me, but the course was brutal, and downright dangerous. The weather got really hot and there were no water stations along the course. The water at the end was from a hose, and the dirt road we ran on was shared with vehicles, with no traffic control whatsoever. Very poorly planned and will never run again. Friends who ran future races told me they ran through vineyards, which sounds nice, but when you have to get into single file to run between the rows of vines, it gets pretty nasty.
