Great race, must-do for local women

As far as I know, SWR is the Seattle area’s only major women’s race. I wish we had more, but I’m glad we have this one. There are three races – 5K, 10K, and half marathon. I have run the 10K in past and ran the half this year.
1.) Course – flat and fast. First 10 miles is on the road and absolutely wonderful. The last 3 miles is on a trail and more twisty, not as perfect, but still fine. This is a PR course. I love running on the first 10 miles on the wide open road.
2.) Parking / timing – I’m glad they run the race at 7 am as it keeps things nice and cool. However, there is limited parking for $30 at the race. Otherwise, you must catch a shuttle that I believe leaves at 6 am from Everett. If you’re driving from the Seattle area, that makes for an early morning. I got up at 4:45 for this race.
3.) General atmosphere – I love the positive, celebratory and supportive atmosphere of a women’s run. As far as atmosphere and vibe goes, you truly cannot beat this race.
4.) Portapotties. They needed twice as many portapotties. There was a line of at least 100 people for the portapotties when I went to the start line to start the race. Many of those people must have been late to start.
5.) Other – There are pace groups for the race ,which was great. Thank you to the wonderful pacers! The website said there would be age group awards, but there were none on race day. There was a nice pink shirt. The medals were kind of lame this year. I appreciated the volunteers handing out cups of water on course. Just another thing that makes this an awesome race for a PR.

My best friend picked this race as her first 10K and I’m so glad that I last minute decided to join.
Pre-race communication was great and very detailed. The parking situation near the start line was not great but the race directors planned for that and had parking and buses running back and forth all morning. We really didn’t have to wait long in either direction.
The finish line area had a bag check which was nice because even though it was May it was still a bit chilly in the morning. The course is relatively flat and there isn’t a whole lot to look at, but I did like that it was a closed course so I didn’t have to worry about any cars.
The swag for this event was nice, it was a blue zip hoodie and I liked the giant medal with flowers. I’m not sure what they had at packet pick-up as far a merchandise but I was able to buy a Snohomish Women’s Run tank top at the finish line and I love the color!
If I was in town again during this race I would definitely do it again.

If you are a woman, you must run this race. Women’s races are rare in the Seattle area, but this one is an absolute gem. As usual, Snohomish Running Company does a superb job organizing the race. The course is dead flat and weather at the beginning of May is likely to be ideal for PR chasing. I was hoping for a PR so I went ahead and purchased the VIP parking package. What’s awesome is that it’s an out-and-back on the roads of Snohomish and you have literally hundreds of people cheering for you as you run back. It’s an amazing feeling.
Please women only – men can register, but there are so few women’s races, don’t bring your husband or boyfriend along. Let women have one race.

They had a sponsor led warm up to get the crowd going and communicated well when there was a slight delay to the start. The environment was great and everyone was so friendly and supportive! Would highly recommend this race and will attend again in the future.

This was my first half. It was described as flat as a pancake and they delivered! The swag was also the best I’ve ever gotten. The medal was beautiful and it came with a sweatshirt I wear all year round. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to break into the world of half marathons!
