The Silver Comet Races are the only ones of their kind on the Silver Comet Trail in Cobb County, a beautiful scenic trail that stretches from just inside the perimeter all the way west to Alabama! The Silver Comet Trail is loved by families and athletes alike for running, cycling, sight-seeing, and general recreation.
Dana Greene has always been a runner, starting with cross country in high school. Knowing the therapeutic effect running can have on a person, she decided to utilize the calming backdrop of the Silver Comet to put on a fast paced 10K. The first 10k she held at the Silver Comet was in 1999, and about 72 people raced; since then our events have expanded to over 2,000 participants.
After several years producing the popular Silver Comet 10K (which takes place in March), she decided to put on the second race. She received overwhelming requests for a fast and flat Half Marathon, and so The Silver Comet Half Marathon was born.
In 2012, Dana decided to put on a Silver Comet Full Marathon event, the first time she’d hosted such a long race on the Silver Comet Trail. She wanted to use the serenity of the Silver Comet Trail to help more experienced runners “get back to the basics,” and remember why they started running in the first place.

The Silver Comet Marathon had some great aspects including friendly volunteers and impressive tee-shirt and finisher’s medal designs. However, two major issues overshadowed the experience.
First, my name was left out of the final results online, and my bib was misattributed to another runner; I’ve tried to contact the organizers with proof of identity but I haven’t heard back.
Second, the race start time was unclear, with different information posted on Active.com and the race website.
While it’s clear this event is a labor of love, these issues were hard to overlook.

The full marathon was not in the least bit organized. I was incredibly disappointed. No mile markers, very few aid stations and no timers. There was a woman sitting at the finish line writing down our time. Really? I can’t believe how unorganized this event turned out to be. I would not recommended to anyone.

This is the worst organized race I’ve ever run. I did the Half Marathon and my husband the Full. At the end we both got the same cheap short sleeve t-shirts that says “Half Marathon”. Also, there were no mile markers or police officers at intersections for the Full Marathoners. They only organized the well being of Half Marathoners. I love Silver Comet Trail, but my family will not run this race again and I don’t recommend it to anybody.
Mostly flat race
Flat course if that's what you like. It was perfect weather this year. The shirt was long sleeve in the past, but short sleeve this time. MORE

I’ve run this race twice. Once in 2013, finished first OF. No finishing pictures of me were available. RD was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. She was struggling with all the logistics in part of the race. In an attempt to help her, I communicated with other finishers who had questions since she seemed stress. She screamed at me. I learned later this is common. (Weird that I’m the only one that had to pictures during this race after her tantrum).
Despite that, I ran it in 2014 and finished second OF. After waiting around for 3 hours for the awards (because RD refused to give them out early), I was then told that the second OF was the only award that was broken and they didn’t even give me my broken award.
It’s a nice flat course for Georgia. Not worth it. Choose one where the RD is kind and more organized.
