The Santa Rosa Marathon is returning this August for another fun day of running through the heart of California’s wine country! Choose from four race distances and experience the pastoral beauty of late summer in Sonoma County. As if that wasn’t enough of a reason to run, you also get treated to world-class race swag and an unlimited tasting glass at the Santa Rosa Beer Fest (21+)!
The Santa Rosa Marathon starts and finishes at the Old Courthouse Square in downtown Santa Rosa. The flat and fast half marathon course runs through downtown Santa Rosa and along the Santa Rosa Creek Trail and Prince Memorial Greenway. The full marathon course also extends into west Sonoma County passing by scenic vineyards and even running through the barrel room of DeLoach Vineyards!
Both courses are USATF-certified (CA15043RS) and the full marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier!
Runners seeking a shorter distance have the opportunity to participate in our 5K and 10K races that run through downtown Santa Rosa and along the Santa Rosa Creek Trail and the Prince Memorial Greenway. The 5K and 10K races are perfect events for families, newer runners, and those just looking for a great way to spend a sunny wine country morning out and about.
The Santa Rosa Marathon doesn’t end at the finish line – the fun continues with the Santa Rosa Beer Fest in the Old Courthouse Square on Saturday and Sunday featuring a free tasting glass for the Santa Rosa Beer Fest for runners 21+, vendor booths, music, and more!
All runners will take home our award-winning swag. This year that includes jackets for marathoners, a quarter-zip for half marathoner, 10K, and 5K runners, and a medal for everyone. Plus, all marathon and half marathon finishers will take home a bottle of wine from Deloach Vineyards.

I was so very very pleased with this race! I had heard very good things about it and decided to make this my second marathon. I am not a fast runner as you can tell by my race results. However, the aid stations were well supplied and there was plenty of support for those of us toward the back of the pack. The swag was great, the beer festival after it was a lot of fun. The only thing I didn’t particularly like was that at the end of the race, water was quite a distance away from a large truck. No bottles. Plus, by the time I finished, pancake breakfast was basically over and the post race snacks were nonexistent.. There were quite a few people after me, however, so I would suggest they have a larger supply next year. With regard to scenery, this race was beautiful! A large portion was down a running path that had a beautiful stream flowing parallel. The section through the vineyards was lovely. A few rolling hills, but nothing major by any means. Running through the DeLoach winery was really fun! And the little glass of Chardonnay at the aid station was delicious. Overall, I would say this was a great race! I had a fantastic time, and would definitely consider running it again.

Because this was my first race, this review is not a comparison with any other races. I enjoyed the race a lot and would come back – probably longer distance. Once you leave Downtown Santa Rosa, the course is along the creek for 5K, 10K and Half. Only Full goes to Wine Country.

For a half marathon the start time was perfect considering the weather was cloudy and let down some mist of water here and there. There were plenty of water stations. The course was on a fantastic creek trail that featured a there and back with half going downhill and returning uphill. Great volunteers that cheered everyone on. The medal and swag were fantastic. No peanut medals were featured this year which is one of the downside of the race. The location for packet pick up at a sporting’s goods store was a great idea especially if you want to grab more running gear with a discount because you are in the race. All and all will be returning next year for another round.

At about mile 10.3, gotta love running through the wine cellar with its ambient lighting made of wine barrels with holes in them. The taste of Chardonnay topped off the whole experience and kept me running relaxed to the finish.
The finish line festival was awesome with great live rock music and awesome beer tasting.
The swag is great with jacket and bottle of wine to each finisher.

Great Race, fun to run, and lots of options to participate!
The packet pick up was different, a little odd being inside a store but worked out fine. The race day set up was nice, clearly marked course, and great water stops. The course is mostly flat with a few small hills. Its quiet and mostly run through the country vineyards. The swag is decent, (the wine is nice!) And the medal was beautiful!
Overall I would recommend for a small but well organized race!

I’ve run this race before but this time it was MUCH better. Loved the expo and the location. Yay, there was parking! The swag was bomb. It was a great jacket. So nice to get something other than just another shirt. There was even a bottle of wine and a discount at the huge sporting good store where the expo was held. The pacers were pretty decent but too fast for the time they were planning. The course was perfect. There was just enough of incline and descents to keep it from being boring. The scenery was excellent. There were plenty of aid stations. The beer festival was great. Breakfast had way too long a line for me to bother with. And, we got lucky and had perfect marathon weather! One improvement I’d suggest it a BQ bell or something similar.
Doesn't get much better

Although it is 3.5 hours from home, I would do it again.

I had such a blast running the Santa Rosa half marathon for my very first half!!! The scenery is beautiful, mostly flat trails, plenty of water/aid stations. Would absolutely recommend for anyone’s first half or full marathon. I plan to do this one every year now as I work up to more hills.
I even ran the race with my mom, which was so cool. I highly recommend this race to everyone of all abilities!!

The Race went off on time the weather cooperated and the aid stations were in just the right locations. The race size is just right so you don’t feel crowded but there is always someone to run with. The crowd was enthusiastic and the finish line party was great. I always expect a good race when I run this and have nor been disappointed yet. I was sadden with the expo not being at De Loche winery but Sports basement did a good job and we used the coupons to go wine tasting out at De Loche anyway.

In its 10 year anniversary, the Santa Rosa Marathon and Half Marathon has found its groove. The course is established, the size of the field is right and the post-race celebration is good fun. It is not inexpensive but the swag and free food post race account for the cost. Bib pickup was moved out of necessity to a sporting goods store from its previous home at DeLoach Winery which has pluses and minuses. Altogether a nice event in one of the premier wine regions of the world.

Unparalleled scenery, trails that make you forget it’s a race, and a course tailored to an effortless PR. I got my Boston qualifier at this marathon, after 10 years and 6 prior attempts! Santa Rosa Marathon will forever stand out in my mind, it was perfection in running, and also, perfection in post-race celebration activities. Do not miss this race!

Even before the start of the race the organizers had things organized well. You get a bottle of wine and a jacket when you pick up your bib. They made sure to communicate, A LOT! I mean A LOT, I have never gotten so many emails from a single race.
The race starts off in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa and then takes you along the river path for the majority of it. The scenery is very pretty, with the river, cows, vineyards. There is a little bit of a hill coming out of the river trail, but by that point you are hitting the home stretch. And the medal is very nice!
There are waffles and beer at the finish for you to enjoy.
