Tour the foothills of the San Tan and Goldmine mountain ranges. The courses feature rolling single track trails through Saguaro cactus studded mountains and valleys. San Tan Mountain Regional Park is tucked away in the Southeast Valley. Discover this hidden jewel of mountains and trails in the desert!
The 9 Km race makes a loop of the San Tan, Hedgehog, and Goldmine trails. The 17 Km encompasses a larger loop of the San Tan, Dynamite and Goldmine Trails. The 26 Km combines the 17 Km and 9 Km courses. The 50 Km course makes 3 loops of the 17 Km course, reversing each loop (first loop is Clockwise).
Sections of the Goldmine Trail are on a very steep rocky trail and portions of the San Tan trail are in a sandy wash.
The San Tan Scramble is the fourth race in the Desert Runner Trail Series. The Desert Runner Trail Series has two points divisions: Trail and Ultra. The 26 Km race at San Tan Scramble will score points in the “Trail Series” while the 50 Km race will score points in the “Ultra Series”. Very cold today, 29 degree start, good sun, 51 degree finish. They have improved a great deal. Course marking, food was great, grill cheese , hot drinks. Haven’t got the results yet, 50K are still out. Nice folks, lots of spectators came out. Good public park. Good parking, lots of space. No issue, The lady runner 50K WON IT, broke the course record by 18 min. So hot she melted the rocks.

If you are a regular runner, you need to know, this organizer is OK at best. The swag gets worst. They seem to change from medals ( wooden ) to very cheap wine glass type the might have cost them 19 cents. I ask the organizer about this and he told me he did a “survey of his runners “, I never received a survey and I have done several of his runs. Runners are here for fun, the race, the location and the medal. 100 plus dollars, sometimes 200, or more and you can not put out a good swag????? Thats called profiteering. Also this race and two other of his races have issues with trail signage. The photo posted was sun rise on race morning.
