In 1981, the “25 km de Berlin” was the first run whose route led through a major German city. When on 3 May 1981 the “25 km de Berlin” had its premiere, this was also a start for the running movement. Over the years, the event has evolved. In the past, it was only the 25 kilometers that were run that has been the subject of a number of other competitions for several years. First came a childrens run over about 2.5 kilometers, then the 10 km race and a little later the 5 × 5 km relay. From 2012, the runners could for the first time also choose the half marathon as the distance.
From the Olympic Square in front of the Olympic Stadium, the runners of the longest distance on offer will go through Reichsstraße, Kaiserdamm, Bismarckstraße, Strasse des 17. Juni through the Brandenburg Gate and across the street Unter den Linden to the Gendarmenmarkt. From there via Leipziger Straße, Tiergartenstraße, Kurfürstendamm, Kantstraße and Neue Kantstraße Theodor-Heuss-Platz, via Reichsstraße, Olympische Straße and Coubertinplatz back to the finish in the Olympic Stadium.

I really enjoyed the BIG25 Race. Starting at Olympic Stadium and running all the way to Berlin Mitte through Brandenburger Tor and then back was really nice. The moment when runners came back into the stadium was magic. Entering one of the biggest stadiums, Tina Turner is singing simply the best through the loudspeakers of the stadium and you are finishing with a personal best – could it be better?
