I’ve never run trails in the dark before, much less on a canyon rim, so the 4am start piqued my interest. Two hours later, as the sky slowly brightened with the sunrise and our surroundings were revealed, I felt gratitude that such a race exists. Truly a beautiful, low-frills event.
Pretty runable course, nothing crazy elevation-wise. Lots of shade from all of the trees but those roots are no joke.
Word of caution: people will tell you that once you get to the overlook, the last two miles are all downhill but there’s actually a final little kick in the pants in the last quarter mile.
Highly recommend this race. Tyoga Running Club knows what it’s doing and they’re a super nice bunch of people.
