I’ve never run trails in the dark before, much less on a canyon rim, so the 4am start piqued my interest. Two hours later, as the sky slowly brightened with the sunrise and our surroundings were revealed, I felt gratitude that such a race exists. Truly a beautiful, low-frills event.
Pretty runable course, nothing crazy elevation-wise. Lots of shade from all of the trees but those roots are no joke.
Word of caution: people will tell you that once you get to the overlook, the last two miles are all downhill but there’s actually a final little kick in the pants in the last quarter mile.
Highly recommend this race. Tyoga Running Club knows what it’s doing and they’re a super nice bunch of people.

Course was extremely well marked, staff was INCREDIBLE, very professionally-run event.
It was nice to be able to access my drop bag so easily.
Great t-shirt and swag, food options were vegan.
Overall very enjoyable little race with relaxed vibes and tough climbs. Highly recommend

Friendly, helpful staff. GREAT volunteers. Really beautiful, well-marked course. This was my first trail race so I was unsure how much to actually carry while running, and I’m so glad I had a full camelbak of water with me. It was very sunny and dry, and I needed way more liquids than I’d anticipated. The pickle juice shots later in the race were very much appreciated. Terrific event with great beer at the end, so glad it was my first ultra! Highly recommended
