The Rim Rock Marathon and Half Marathon course follows the famous Rim Rock Drive through the Colorado National Monument, giving runners beautiful views of the Grand Valley. The views along the race course are unmatched and perfect for runners looking for something MONUMENTAL.
Winding over the Colorado National Monument from Grand Junction to Fruita, Colorado, the Rim Rock Marathon and Half Marathon boasts scenery unlike any other. The peaceful course features views of towering monoliths, vast plateaus, and canyon panoramas. Sheer-walled, red rock canyons surround the twists and turns of the course. In addition to a challenging marathon course, the race features a downhill half marathon, starting at the Colorado National Monument’s Artist Point and winding into downtown Fruita, where racers can join in the post-run celebrations.
The race finishes at the Fruita Community Center, at a celebration that includes a beer garden, vendor expo, awards ceremony, and much more.
Proceeds from the Rim Rock Run benefit scholarships for Colorado Mesa University Track and Cross Country student-athletes and the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission.

I was worried about the lack of spectators and the overall size of the race, but I was overwhelmed and amazed at the scenery of this race. To be able to look down the side of the moutain and see the road I would eventually be running. A point-to-point race with a nice, gradual descent and amazing views. My time could have been better, but had to stop and take pictures!
Stunning scenery, good climb
This race was lovely. I would Say train appropriately for the down hills and flats to protect your joints after the climb. And do some Hill reps on the road. MORE

Fast, even, downhill, but not all of it!
Fun race, start with 3 mile uphill, then 8 miles down hill. Last mile is a gradual uphill and is a KILLER! Great views, friendly athletes, nice feel overall. MORE

This is a well organized race with beautiful views. It is on a smaller scale and you have room from mile one to get into your pace. The road conditions is great. The race expo is non existant with only a bib pick up. The finish is small and intamit with room for finish line selfies. The volunteers were great and encouraging even with the 30 degree temp outside. Overall great race!!!!

This race showcases the hidden beauty that is Western Colorado. Located almost to the border or Utah, the Colorado National Monument features stunning canyon scenery with unique red rock formations. But be prepared! With over 2000′ of gain in the first 8 miles (the majority of which takes place during miles 2-5) this is no easy course. Thankfully the second half is all downhill though – which I definitely needed by that point to get me to the finish line. This is a wonderful a small town race – not a lot of spectators, but great course support and plentiful aid stations. The finishers shirt and medal were top notch as well!
