Drove to Grand Junction the day before. It’s an extremely small race so the expo is walking into a small room with one table and getting your bib. The people were very friendly, and I loved the long sleeve shirt they gave.
This was my first super hilly marathon course, so I made sure to train a lot with hills…and I’m so thankful I did. I recall the first 8ish miles being hilly. The first two miles were ridiculously hilly and my slowest times. You climb around 4000 ft., but the views make every step worth it. You finally reach the top, and it gets significantly easier (though not completely off the hook with hills). I cannot emphasize how beautiful this course is. 100% would run this marathon again. If you do it, make sure you really train hills!
