Have you ever felt completely insignificant in comparison to nature? Well, get ready to feel precisely that way among the turquoise waters, glaciers and towering granite horns of the Torres del Paine National Park. The jaw-dropping landscapes of this eighth wonder of the world are humbling indeed.
Marathon Tours & Travel has partnered with The Massif®, a Magellan family business that recognizes the relevance and natural heritage value of Torres del Paine. Our PATAGONIA RUNNING FESTIVAL packages have been designed to bring together global runners to participate in the best race day and adventure travel experience that Chilean Patagonia has to offer. Running within Torres del Paine National Park runners can choose from the Ultra 50K, Marathon, Half-Marathon, 11K and the new 5K distances. After fulfilling the dream of running in one of the most pristine places on the planet, you will cross the finish line conveniently located at our Hotel Rio Serrano & Spa and join the post-race celebration!
Once again, Marathon Tours will offer seven-night (Experience Chile) and five-night (Experience Patagonia) packages. In addition, they’re excited to offer a new option: Atacama to Patagonia Ten-Night Package! All packages include accommodations in Patagonia at the Hotel Rio Serrano & Spa and their “all-inclusive” packages that include 12 daily excursions with trekking, boating, horseback riding and climbing options so you can explore this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the non-race days.
What else can you expect? Terrific wildlife-watching in Torres del Paine; seeing majestic condors soaring in the skies overhead; spotting foxes, huemul or Andean deer and guanacos along the way; and if you lie in wait patiently, you might be lucky enough to spot the reclusive puma!

This race has the insane views of Patagonia you are hoping for! The whole course is worthy of photo taking with the incredible mountains and turquoise lakes. The 50k course is basically a 42k marathon on a gravel road, and then the last 5 miles on grass. Grass feels great after so much downhill on the road. If you are a trail runner, you will think this is a fast and easy course, only about 3,500ft of elevation gain/loss. I got my new 50k PR! If you are a road runner, you will think this course is hilly. The 42k and 50k start together which is nice, because the ultra field is very small and then you’re not off running alone the entire race. The weather can be unpredictable (we had 2-3 hours of rain), so make sure you bring your layers. It started in the high 30s and ended in the 40s.
This race was so well organized. I was probably one of the few Americans to not participate in this race via Marathon Tours. It was super easy to just book my own trip and accommodation in Puerto Natales, and significantly cheaper. The race fee included bus transport to and from Puerto Natales to the start and finish (and spectators could buy a seat too!) and this went very smoothly and there was no hassle on race day. Many Chileans and other South Americans come to this race and stay in town, so I enjoyed taking the buses and meeting a diverse bunch of fellow runners. There were also showers at the finish line! Every last thing about the race was so well thought out and organized. The swag was fantastic and there was so much of it! A race shirt I actually love. The post-race festival was a ton of fun and had good food and even free medal engraving. My friend ran the 11K, and despite her whole race being in the rain and having to wait for me to finish for hours, she still had a blast. If it weren’t so far away, I would definitely do it again.

If your dream is to one day see one of the top ten scenic places in the world – and also run a marathon or a half-marathon- then put the Patagonia Running Festival on your bucket list! You will NOT regret choosing this destination, especially if you are a Marathon Tours member working towards your seven continents. The beauty of the Torres Del Plaines mountains, experienced with hiking, horse-back riding, or racing, will amaze and delight you while also fulfilling your race goals.
Getting to the host hotel is a bit of a day’s journey, but well worth the effort. Fabulous rooms, meals, daily excursions, pool and spa opportunities await you upon arrival at the Rio Serrano. Hotel personnel along with the Marathon Tours staff and guides really work hard to personalize each guest’s journey.
Race day was super fun and exciting, but towards the end got pretty wild and challenging with cold, rain, sleet, and even snow, so be prepared. Running under the finish arch was just great with announcers cheering for you and announcing your finish to all. Food, drink, awards were well-organized and plentiful, and the fellowship post race was my favorite part of the day!
Race day is super organized, and family members who don’t love a distance can still participate in a 5 or 10k run, giving all the full Patagonia Running experience. I did not participate in the extension trip doing the “W” hike, but heard it exceeded everyone’s hopes. Definitely a challenge for those willing to do some serious post-run hiking!
Recommendations I feel are important: pay attention to the packing lists and baggage instructions from MT whenever you take a destination trip that is strenuous like this one. While they do work hard to make your experience a luxury one, you still have to schlep those bags in the airports and down to the busses! And take several possible cold and warm running outfits as the race day weather changes almost hourly.
Sign up for EVERYTHING you are capable of. My favorite was the morning after race sunrise hike. Magnificent and an easy way to do some post-race stretching.
I am so glad and grateful for this experience. Patagonia had been on my wish list for years. Thankful for the motivation of my running friend, Sarah Evans, who checked off her fifth continent also, and my husband, Jeff Rohleder, who is always game for another Marathon Tours trip. Double bonus points for having a nice reunion with Mike and Katie, Race Raves founders!

Did the 7 day tour. Race was great. Weather was nasty. Course is rolling hills and hard gravel road. The details…
1) getting there – long haul from US. Flights to Santiago then another early morning 4 hour flight then 5 hour bus ride to park / hotel in Pantagonia. Same going home.
2) package pick up. Went with Marathon Tours and race package was delivered directly to our rooms. Very nice.
3) pre race activities – lots to do for the 2 days before the race – horseback riding and lots of really nice hikes. Can’t say enough about the really cool scenery and how good and knowledgeable the guides were
4) getting to race – depending on which distant you are doing bus ride out to start then finish back at hotel. All good. Races started right on time.
5) race – rolling hills on a gravelly pot holed road within the park. Very challenging. Weather made it more challenging. Started raining / sleeting / snowing about half way thru the race. About 40 degrees with winds. Nice and crisp.
6) finish and post race party – really really good. Guys at the finish line from the hotel cheering you on were lots of fun. Very nice finishing at the hotel especially being wet and cold. Hotel / race people put on a great after party.
So overall the race and hotel / park were most excellent. Also the hotel and staff were unbelievable great as were the staff of Marathon Tours. Just be prepared for a couple of long travel days getting there and back.
The race, scenery, park, hotel staff and Marathon Tours staff made this a must do trip.
Overall grade – A.

– “Dress for the unpredictable” was the right advice for runners in 2025. Based on mild conditions at the start, most runners (including myself) felt overdressed initially, following this advice. However, we were rewarded for heeding the advice as shortly thereafter the weather changed rapidly with hours of sideways, freezing rain. Some runners dressed for the starting temperatures/climate faced challenges including crossing the finish line. It should be noted that the race director requires the bib to be displayed on the outer layer at ALL times. This requirement requires runners give advanced thought to their personal layering options.
– Swag bag was great and many runners used wearable products during the race itself
– Shout out to MTT (Marcie Clawson) and the Rio Serrano. The former for proving a great experience to the runners and ensuring we were prepared with what we needed (e.g. information, packing list), and the latter for providing MTT runners with 5* accommodations (including gourmet food, wine, and empanadas at the finish line!)
– Recommend the post race W Trek (MTT) as the cherry on your Patagonia experience

A great race for adventurous souls on gravel roads and hills through Torres del Paine National Park! Weather can be unpredictable in Patagonia but we were lucky to not get the strong wind that was forecasted for most of the race. Race is well organized and supported. There were 6 aid stations on course and porta potties at the start were better the ones in the states! Wear trail or running shoes with traction for gravel and bring a hydration vest. Finish line and race celebration were at the Rio Serrano Hotel + Spa with great food and drinks and medal ceremony. I was initially hesitant to book this trip/race as a solo traveler through Marathon Tours and Travel. I am so glad that I did! It was an amazing adventure with wonderful people, excellent service and great race swag and photos.

Be prepared to love Chile if you go and take some time to explore before/after this race. The run is on gravel and the road is hilly but follows the lake makes the challenge worth it. Wind can be a factor but this is not your average run in the park. Torres del Paine National park and the Rio Serrano impressed.
