Super hard but amazing
This race was outstanding. Very cold weather, raining and trail terrain. Very well organized. Intense because my longest run. I really love it and hate it at the same time. MORE

This was my first attempt at an Outlast event. Format was a 5km run per hour at the start of each hour for six straight hours – so total of 18.6 miles.
The race was scheduled to be mostly trail and hard packed dirt in a wooded park and around a small lake. But weather forecast predicted a lot of rain and freezing temperatures (30’s and 40’s) so for the safety of all, Texas Outlaw Running Company and the RD Hailey Chavers moved a large part to paved bike paths and sidewalks. It was good decision to make – and the race production not only didn’t suffer, they ran that race perfectly.
I ran my first three 5Ks in pretty similar times (#3 was my fastest of the day) at: 26:15, 25:25, and 24:25. I was a little slow and at the back of the start on lap 4, so that one came in at 26:25. I kept it consistent for the next one at: 26:11 and a bit slow for my last loop at 28:14.
Total time for me was 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 48 seconds. I placed 25th male and took 1st in my age group (there aren’t too many of us old geezers). Four loop finishers received a patch. Five loop finishers received a larger patch. Six loop finishers received a medal.
I really enjoyed this race and, thanks to RD Hailey from Texas Outlaw Running Company, I will certainly be looking for other TORC events.
